Hi

Does anyone have experience of the Winning Tongue Plate bit either the normal or extended palate?

Interested to know of reasons for use and results?
Thank you

I came across this during my bit search, I was chatting with my EDT about it, I believe bits with tongue plates have been used in racing

Tongue tie
Strip of material tied around a horse's tongue and lower jaw to keep it from swallowing its tongue, which can clog its air passage. A horse wearing a tongue tie is denoted on a racecard by a small t next to the horse's weight (t1 indicates that the horse is wearing a tongue tie in a race for the first time).

The above method can cause nerve damage and so tongue plates were used for a similar purpose. Perhaps those with racehorses would be able to help?

ermm..not that exact one.
Have used one very similar though- and worked a treat- the Shires tongue one.

Reason: rescue mare that had been mistreated and ridden very harshly, wouldn't accept a contact after a year rehab and time off. Kept getting her tongue over the bit. After 2 years of schooling and competing, she was still doing it- when ridden by professionals. Didn't want to use a flash etc. Was advised to try it by a professional who thought it was now a habit.

Result: Used for 6 months- habbit stopped- back in normal bit :)

Thank you! I have a horse who lolls his tongue and it is purely habit. I wondered if I could somehow break the habit. I'll have a go.

I have been advised to use a spoon bit by specialist vet. I have just ordered one of these and would be interested to hear any success or otherwise stories
