My friend is considering buying a synthetic saddle to use on young horses at the yard. Does anyone use either the Wintec 2000 or Wintec Pro Jump? What are your opinions on them and which gives a more secure ride (they will be used on young sharp horses).

I LOVE my Wintec 2000! The Pro is more forward cut and the people I've talked to who have the equileather version of this generally say it's too slippery, but I imagne with the equisuede on the Pro version it would be nice. IMO though the 2000 is forward cut enough to jump quite big in, I'd only get the jump saddle if I was doing serious BSJA/BE at serious heights. I'm currently doing about 2'9" in a Wintec VSD so I imagine the 2000 would be fine on mine up to about 4'! Obviously it depends on the horse though, and even more obviously it depends which saddle fits the horse. If I were you I'd suggest the 2000, it's forward cut enough for a lot of things and I find it very secure, but it doesn't hold me in so much that I can't get out if the saddle if I need to. Best thing to do really would be to have a sit in both types, but if that's not possible I'd definately suggest the 2000 over the jump.

The reason she was considering the jump version is that she usually rides in a Stubben CS and the knee blocks on the jump version seem similar, whereas the 2000 has knee rolls at the front (if that makes any sense!) Is it possible to use the blocks designed for the jumping saddle on the 2000?

Yep the knee roll bits are velcro so you can buy the jump blocks and stick them on the 2000. There's a fair amount of velcro under the knees on the 2000 so a fair amount of adjustment to get the just right. You can generally buy spare knee blocks/rolls from any Weatherbeeta stockist. Or off eBay if you're lucky!

I have a wintec 2000, which I find great for me and my young horse - they dont suit everyone (or every horse) though, so try before you buy if possible!

The velcro panel doesnt cover the hole of the lower flap, so you couldnt put blocks behind the leg if thats what you mean?

But as said above, there is a fair bit of room for adjustment in front of the knee!

One thing with the jump pro - it has less spine/wither clearence, so may not suit all horses.... I havent ridden in one though (but in general find a GP more secure than a jump saddle due to the deeper seat)

Also, I agree - definately go for equisuade, rather than equileather for grippyness!

And I reccomend the slimmer synthetic leathers - I find the regular ones can dig into your thighs!

I tried th epro on my horse but is was too flat over the wither area, it is a case of buying what will fit a majority of shapes I guess

i use a wintec 2000, on my tb x friesian. i wouldn't want to change. i school, jump, showjump hunt and x-c, never had a problem. comfy, good grip, knee rolls work.

well worth the money ( go for the cair adjustable one) you won't be disappointed.

i had a wintec pro jumping saddle which i really liked. I had the suede version of the isabelle dressage and got the same feeling of grippyness (is that a word?!?!) with the pro. Alsoi with having movable knee blocks it really suited me as im short and find it hard to find saddlkes i can get to fit my short stumpy legs!!

i jumped uo to novice BE in the pro and found it no problem at all, although the flat seat takes a bit of getting used to
