Ive got a 3 year old thoroughbred arriving soon : ) trained but not raced, I have an albion dressage saddle but im thinking about getting a synthetic saddle for everyday use. I had a wintec close contact jump saddle for my haffy which was surprisingly comfy...but sold with him so am looking into the wintec 2000 which at the mo is my preference and the wintec 500 but not set on getting them ive just had one before and thought with changeable gullet would be good as horse will fill out a bit.Has anyone got an opinion about comfort etc of these?? Would be greatly appreciated and a cookie for the person with the best suggestion : )

I hated my 500 - I could NOT sit in it to save my life, I just floated and slid around. I have had 2000s on two of mine (14.1hh Welsh Cob and 15.3hh ID X) and I love them. It fits my ID X perfectly, and I don't slip or slide or float or anything.
I can't really comment on comfort as I find most saddles too hard (no natural padding

I think its highly unlikley that you will get a wintec to fit a TB...the saddle is just not the right shape and you end up with such a narrow gullet to get the wither clearence that the saddle ends up tipping back...not to mention the pinching at the wither.

I wouldnt touch one.

I have a 2000 for my ID x TB and absolutely love it. The equisuede seat makes you feel really secure.

Hes a medium/medium wide thoroughbred and hes not the really really fine, boney type and at the mo hes still a bit under not that hes ill just not great for going through winter having come off a race yard. Im thinking buy the saddle and get the saddler to fit, if no good can always sell it on : )

Hiya

I loooove the Thorowgood T4. I had a high wither T4 for my TB and it fitted perfect and was so comfy for my bony bum too. You get them with the fish adjustable system and now you also get them with the adjustable gullet. Perfect for your youngster who will definitely change shape.

I love my thorowgood T4 too! Tried a wintec with adjustable gullet for my new boy who is changing shape all the time and it just never sat right.

Got the T4 and the fish adjustable system is fantastic as he is filling out and muscling up I can change it all ways to fit correctly.

Its is so comfy for my butt too!

I've never seen a Wintec 500 fit a tb 'properly'. I have 2 ex-racers and the fit on one was ok but it made the other one lame by being to tight over his shoulders. The 2000 with Cair was better but still not good enough. The prob is that when it was narrow enough over his withers it was too tight through the shoulder, and if I widened it to fit his shoulders it sat too low on his back. Ideally a Tb should have a saddle with a drop panel, it fits their shape so much better.

He now has a Thorowgood T4 high wither saddle - £100 ebay bargain - which fits beautifully and is lovely and light, and a Saddle Company event which has a drop panel.

I, personally, would look into a T4 high wither for now and see how you get on....
