I apologise if this question has been asked but I wondered what you all thought of the Wintec gp 500. My saddler has recommended it with flocking. He doesn't like the cair system. I will be using it for schooling and hacking. What do you all think!

I personally don't like the 500, it just doesn't fit me very well (regardless of whether it fits the horse or not). Nor does the VSD, I jump my share horse in one and don't like it. I also find the Wintec 'equileather' material very slippy (my Wintecs are both 'pro' versions with equisuede seats so I avoid the slippy-ness of the 500 style seats).
Best advice - try one!

I dont like the 500 GP, I have a wintec 2000 which is MUCH more comfy and has a more secure seat, I also have a wintec 500 dressage, which I like, but would go for the pro version if I ever got another.

Not over struck on the GP but love my VSD - even jumped prenovice XC in it - but I have very long legs and a short budget, would probably love a decent jumping saddle and decent dressage saddle even more could I afford them!

I'd try a few options if you can, but don't discount it, especially if you're on a budget or are careless with your tack. You could do worse.

My saddler told me the leather bates version was designed to take Cair, but they just shoved the Cair in the flock pouches on the synthetic ones (they didn't design new pouches specially for Cair), thus if you are going for a synthetic one, have flock rather than Cair.

I had a 500 GP with flock and it was OK, it fit my horse whilst sorting out a proper jumping saddle. Bearing in mind I like a really forward cut jumping saddle I still managed to go PN eventing on mine. Would agree that flocking is a better option as much more adaptable if you saddler needs to tweek the fit.

As others suggest, your best bet is to try as many different saddles as you can before parting with your money.

I have it (it came with my horse so not through choice) It is fine, does the job and I like the adjustable gullet, there is nothing wrong with it at all imho
