Anybody got one of these - the one with the interchangeable gullet - are they easy to fit and are the gullets easy to change? any pro's/con's to them? (want a dressage saddle for an extra wide cob)

I have the wintec VSD and love it to bits. It's almost but not quite a dressage saddle, fairly straight flaps but "normal" girth. I took about 10 mins to change the gullet the first time, got it down to about 5 mins the second.
It sees heavy use without complaining, and most people think it's a "proper" one until they get right up close, not bad for £300 delivered with stirrups, "leathers", girth and numnah.
They won't suit all people or all horses though, some people hate them, and some say they don't go wide enough for the very wide cobs.

I had a GP one, it was very good, gullets are resonable easy to change HOWEVER the extra wide is not wide enough for my cobby pony who has a very broad flat back so make sure you're sure it will fit!

Think they might be on offer on Equestrian Clearance.

i have an XXW pony so i have the 'Wintec wide' synethetic. i love it, i cant afford a leather right now and ive been very luck that it fits ok - they dont suit all horses. i tried a thorough good for example and i hated it with a passion and so did my horse. its all trial and error. i have mine in brown and its quite vsd so i can get away with using it for small local shows, its easy to clean too. ideal until i can afford a leather

ust bought one for Bert and I am very pleased with it. The gullets seem easy enough to change and it is very comfy. The straighter cut of the flap made it a good fit around Bert's giant shoulders

I used to have the 500 dressage one and it was very good for the money. Doesn't have a very deep seat, but that suited me as I like to be able to move!

My boy got too wide for it though - the x-wide is the same a medium-wide in albion saddles, so I would get the wintec wide saddle if your boy is medium-wide or bigger in a leather saddle.

I sold my 500 when when my last horse grew out of it, but want it back now as they are a good, versatile and reasonably priced saddle

i really like mine, i have it on my 16.1 tb with a narrow gullet in at the mo, altho thru summer when he gets a bit fatter it only takes me 5 mins to change gullets to a N/M. iv had mine 18 months and have used it nearly every day.

The only complaints I have with the Wintec 500, are that the gullet screws (the chrome ones inside that hold the gullet plate in place) can undo themselves, so need a drop of locktight on them when you change the gullet plates, and that the panels under the kneerolls are cut a bit too far forward for native types and can inpead the shoulder blade.
