Wintec girth problems

I was in the tack shop last week and decided to treat my boy to a nice spongy , wipe clean wintec girth, as we usually use standard cottage craft ones for just shoving in the washing machine. I've used it three times so far and each time I've really struggled to do my girth up! It's as if the rollers are stuck and won't allow the buckles to move up the straps. I've found it difficult while mounted and on the ground. I have a nearly new ideal saddle with quite thick new leathers but I didn't have the issue with my other girths so wondering if it could be a fault with wintec? If I take it off, the rollers move easily so it's not as if they're stuck or anything. Not really sure if its a valid reason for taking back to the shop bit it's no use if I can't do my girth up!

Sorry for long paragraphs, on my iPhone on lunch break.

I think I know the sort of girth you mean......... they tend to have a quite thick "bit" on the top of it, i.e. where the buckle joins in, where they've overlaid it with some quite heavy rubbery/vinyl material. Is yours like this?

I've got one like it, and I did find that sometimes, especially if the girth is a bit small and you're needing to use the end holes, this bit is inclined to "stick" a bit - can be sometimes a bit hard to get over the end of the saddle lining....... but once you've done it, its OK.

This is something you might encounter if your girth is a wee bit small perhaps.

Dunno if this helps? Hope you know what I mean!

I know exactly what you mean. It's because they're a bit bulky where the buckles join and the bulk gets stuck at the bottom of the saddle flap. I bought another girth next size up which solvedthe problem.

So weird that people keep posting girth threads when i am having girth issues and specifically with THIS girth I think! I too have found you struggle to get it tight enough, it's like something's blocking it - I think sometimes mine is getting caught on the saddlecloth?

I also think it's possible my youngster is not happy with this girth so I am going to have a rethink. It could be it's actually too thick for him

Ladyt25, yes it could be the gitth straps on the saddle cloth. That was another issue I had, but again solved with longer girth.

Yes it's that one! £35 I think it was. I thought it was getting caught on the numnah straps where you put the girth through but I've tried different numnahs too and it just seems like it won't budge! Surely then this could be a product design fault?

It's the same size as my others, I need to start it on both lowest holes to start off with but once I'm mounted I can get my girths a half way up either side so I'm a bit reluctant to buy bigger !

Have never had this problem myself, but would some Vaseline under the rollers help? Only an idea..... Might not work at all or might make a gooey mess on horse/numnahs/girth straps.

I don't have a problem with my wintec girth on my wintec saddle. But mines well worn in and I did spray a bit of wd40 on the buckles when I first got it! Do you have the same problem if you use a half pad? They do wear in eventually. Or stick with the cottage craft, they're lovely girths :)

Never had an issue with my wintec girths  I use them on T6/8 saddles for both my cobs :)

Would perhaps suggest getting a slightly bigger size as it sounds as if they are a bit neat if both sides are at the bottom for you to get it on.

this is exactly the problem i had with the wintec girth i bought, it drove me nuts Im afraid. Its the bulky bit at the top, not the rollers.. they catch on the numnah or skirt edge of the saddle.

I'd imagine its the bulky bit as I can undo the buckle but it still won't move as if the bulky bit is made of a nubuck type material.... Hmmm oh dear!
