Just bought one of these lovely saddles of ebay and all is well.
Can anyone tell me what the extra strap on the saddle flaps is for?
When done up is it supposed to be tight or loose?
Please take pity on a simple bloke who cannot cope with these adjustable things.

i was always told simply to keep the flaps in place because as synthetic they are more likely to move around if the strap is not done up! On fleur i leave it fairly loose (can fit hand through happily) but on Dan no choice but to be tight as he is built like a barrell and you can only just do it up full stop!

I cut the straps off mine and the flaps didn't move. I had a fear of said strap slipping backwards and causing my mare to do a rodeo performance. No problems from cutting it off either

I had one of these fitted this week. I was told the extra strap was just to help keep the flaps close to the horses side, doesn't need to be done up as tight as the main girth straps. Best idea is to have a girth with an extra loop in the middle to tuck it through amd keep in place.

I found it did no good at all and just cut mine off too. No problems since cutting it off.

Surely your legs stop the saddle flaps from flapping about????

Also found that once I had warmed up if I then tightened my girth the extra strap was then too loose and moved off the main girth and as someone already said it became a bit of a rodeo strap - not good in a dressage saddle,

Having said all that I LOVE it and have seen an improvement in marks since I have been using it.
