Wintec saddles: my gullets are too narrow then too wide

I've got a Wintec and it's currently got a blue (MW) gullet in, which is too narrow. I tried the red (W) gullet in it and it is too wide and rolling around on his back.

So, what can I do? Anyone used riser pads and if so which one? (Front/Rear)

Any ideas appreciated, I've missed a nice sunny riding day today because of it and I'm not happy

I have a Wintec, currently fitted with an extra wide gullet, that came with Milly. It doesn't fit her at all.

So, I am going through the process (nightmare) of trying to find a saddle that fits her and me!!

As a temp thing I have put a front rising pad under the saddle, so that the front comes up and the saddle isn't collapsing onto her withers.

I have just got a smaller gullet and fitted it tonight, but as of yet not tried it on her. Not sure if I will like it or not now, even if it does fit her.

Hope you manage to sort yours out.

Ah ha, I think the front riser is what I need then

Thankies, and hope your saddle fits (aren't they a pain in the ass sometimes)

which one is he measuring at?

i have the same problem but my lad was fitted with a med gullet by a fitter & it still slips back

to me it sits to far down on his withers

Haven't measured him as I haven't a measuring gauge (sp?) but he does tend to go between MW and W. The MW sits perched on top of him and it does feel like I'm just perched on top when I'm riding too. The wide sits nicely but rolls about and I know it will when I try to mount too, so I don't want to attempt it and damage his back

hmmm, what a pain.

i would try a front riser or a fleece pad, if i put my med/wide on i have to put my fleece on as well to pad it out a bit.

i need to get the fitter back out again i think

This whole saddle thing is being a complete pain in the butt at the mo.

I have heard from a few people that the Wintec's do have a habit of doing this and chucking the rider forward.

I had the same prob, I went to my local tack shop and borrowed a wintec saddle gage...it worked, now have the right gullet gage...

i have the opposite problem with my wintec- my tb needed a narrow gullet, then had tohave 4 weeks off due to cellulitis and mud fever. when i put the saddle back on him it was too low on his withers, so i rode him in it with a front riser pad, but this made him sweat alot, so my dad managed to make it a bit more narrower, it fits fine now.

a qualified saddler can bend the gullet slightly for an exact fit but when you start moving into the wide and extra wide gullet wintec's do have a tendency to rock front and back as the tree is quite banana shaped and therefore not ideal for the wider types. Hoep that helps. Maybe try a thorowgood cob saddle, much flatter tree with extra shoulder clearance, not quite so comfy to ride in but fit the wider types much better.
