Does anyone on here use a bog-standard Wintec VSD on an arab? A quick squiz on AL seems to suggest the Wintec Isabelle is popular....

I'm just so fed up of the lad changing shape...I know he's youngish (6) and only been in work coming up to a year but its ridiculous.....he's gained condition, muscled up.....damn hoss is a different shape every month:mad:

Saddler fitted him 2 months ago...already I'm not happy cos he's not happy- seems a little too tight accross the front even with the thinnest numnah...

Now...he's a purebred but he does actually have withers and a curve to his back so not your typical no-wither-table-top arab. Similar in fact to my previous Part-bred who was happy as larry in a Wintec VSD only I went and sold the goddam thing after he died.:(

Aaaaargggh.

That is all.:D

PS so far he has had 2 Ideals ( WH and a Ramsay) a K+M VSD, a Fieldhouse and is currently in a Champion- very comfy and been fine for a grand total of 2 months...)

I cant comment on Wintecs, but my Arab - complete with curvy back and withers and changing shape daily - went very well in a Thorowgood T4 as i could alter the FISH to fine tune for his shape.(didnt need to change the gullet)

I was surprised at how much i did alter the fit, thought it was one of those selling points that you have but dont use!

After a fling with wintecs, I have gone back to English leather saddles, got an older style Jeffries event saddle off Ebay, [had been used to show an arab], it is second hand and fairly old, but as Jeffries only seem to have two widths, and my horse had an arab shape, I was pleased but not surprised that is fitted him, and me.
It was £208 delivered and I am sure I would not have lost much if I had had to re-sell it.
I found the Wintec GP was like riding on a board, and a 17 1/2 was more like an 18inch, so it neither fitted me or the pony.

Thats the thing putting me off having another Wintec MrsD....old horse loved it but as you say.....hard on the butt.

I think I'm deffo going to go down the adjustable route.....have decided I'm off to R+R tomorrow with his most recent template to have a sqizz at Thorowgoods and Optimus....will see if I can blag a trial;)

I have a 50/50 arab/tb, whos back is like a coffee table, complete with uper-sprung ribs, but she has withers.

I can get nothing, nothing flat enough to fit her, that doesn't sit on her withers. Or if it fits at the front, it moves/pinches at the back. She seems to seasonally change shape... She's 8 now.

I am trying a widerrrrr throwogood as a last resort, then if not I'm going treeless, as I have a barrel pony as well so I'd be killing two birds with one stone!

I don't have an Arab but understand your pain as I have a young welshy who at 5 is on her 6th saddle (aaaaaahhh) I have decided to give up and go treeless as I have recently tried a heather moffett on her and finally we are both comfortable and it should only take small adjustments to keep her happy!!! I did try both wintecs and thorowgoods and couldn't get a wintec to fit her, the thorowgood worked for a while but even with all the adjustables it still wasn't right and I hated it to ride in!

Good luck in your saddle search, if only we had unlimited funds!!

I have an Arab and I use a Wintec VSD, purely for reasons of economy at the time. The saddle fits her really well but I would much rather be sitting on something nicer!

I use a lovely Ideal Jessica Dressage saddle on my arab mare (shes full Arab) but has curves! This fits her perfectly and I also have a Jefferies WH saddle (when we did showing) and that fits her great aswell. :)

My purebred is in a wintec wide she likes it better than he very expensive made to measure vsd! Though she is not like yours she's a bit of a no whither and rather wide though croup high!

Another vote for the T4. I have a VSD which fits a treat on my pure-bred and also the rather taller partbreds including one that I tried it on more in hope than expectation! It was bought for a connie that outgrew it widthways. She is doing well in a Wintec... I found that the Wintec was inclined to move on himself.

My only crib with the T4 was that, being a VSD, I felt rather insecure for the first couple of miles of the first little endurance ride I did with him - which were conducted in "boing" trot - so I invested in a Kent and Masters GP which I love lots and which he goes really well in.

Dressage-wise a Jackie Roberts saddle fitted him even better than the Ideal Jessica (and was considerably cheaper :D )
