Hey guys

A rather boring question about Wintec saddles!

I've had one for a couple of years now, which has received vast amounts of changes to an ever-changing young warmblood! It now doesn't fit again and will be speaking with the saddler tonight.

Is it possible that Wintec's can't fit every horse? As I have a feeling I might be needing a whole new sadde - but, how can you tell? As I don't want to say the saddler 'i think I need a new saddle' and buy one for the sake of it when it can be adjusted.

hmmm... what do you guys think? xx

they don't fit very well on some horses in our experience. I don't suppose you have a spare narrow or narrow med gullet you'd like to get rid of do you?!

I don't unfortunatly! Only have a wide which he is in at the moment, thanks for the input though

I love Wintecs but unfortunately, although you can change the tree size, you can't change the tree shape. A Wintec tree shape is just too curved for some horses. Hattie can't wear one as her back is straightish so the Wintec just rocks back and forth on her like a rocking chair.
They are good for horses with high withers or more dipped backs but for straight backed horses, they don't fit at all.

So far as I recall, they were originally designed in NZ and so were largley modelled on the TB type shape. (Does anyone else remember a story about the designer nailing one to the roof of his shed for 12 months to see whether the materials were durable enough?!)
As such, horses roughly TB shaped seem to do well with them - certainly in my experience - but others are less suited.
No matter how much you change the gullet at the front, it won't alter the fit at the back. If it's not right, it's not right!

No they are not going to fit everyhorse but they do different designs eg wide for flat backed no wither types.
I have the wide for my haflinger and love it!
Wintec have also just re-desinged there range, I have just purchased the new 500 for my welsh D ( who has a straight back) as hes still growing and its a nice saddle, for £350.00 im very impressed my saddler also said they deff have improved it.

If you have a good saddler he should tell whether he can adjust it to fit or you need a new 1!

Thats the problem, it never fits quite right at the back, and is slightly raised at the moment! It is bouncing up and down while I rise in trot and is tight and tipping at the front

good job physio is coming up soon!

Sounds like a new saddle for me

I have a spare Narrow and a medium narrow if anyone is after them. but please email me direct, it will be a first come who gets them, i dont want the hassel i had last time in ppl acused of steeling posts etc.....

Hi, if its any help i have a young WBxID and although her Wintec fitted her originally it really doesnt any more - she has also gone up the gullets and had 4 different ones but it does the same - tips up and bounces at back - my original saddler said it was fine but have since had someone else out who has said it is completely wrong and even if the gullet width is correct the fit of the rest of the saddle just isnt right for her.

If i were you i would bin it ... painful i know and i am saving up for a new (second hand) saddle - but better than causing any pain or accidents!!

Thats fab, thanks Switchthehorse, it gives me an idea of what I am to expect the saddler to say and what I should query etc.

Cheers

The back end bouncing is the big design fault with Wintecs. As mentioned, they were pretty much designed for the TB and have banana shaped tree, and have a shallow block at the back, which really does not fit many horses.
