Basically in the winter I have next to no turnout and my mare rarely hacks in the winter due to the god awful weather. She is only really worked on a surfaced arena be it the indoor or the outdoor.
So I was thinking about whipping her shoes off in the winter and putting them back on for her summer turnout.
Will this be bad? Or is it fine whipping them off for 5 months then putting them back on??
I would ask the farrier but he is an illusive creature and I never see him unless he is up to shoe them which is during my working day!
D :D

I know friends who do this and it works well for them.

I would ask your farrier whether he thinks she would cope but other than that don't see any problem with it. Hope this helps :)

Thanks guys, I didn't think it would do any harm, I will have to set a trap for my farrier so that I can see him! He really is rather illusive!

My old retired lad lives our all year round and only has front shoes on in the summer months when the ground is hard. It works really well for him and he has navicular which all the special shoeing couldn't help, he's much happer on the above routine.
