Anyone else feeling same?
Been covered in mist for days, everything wet, relentless mucking out.
Haven’t managed to ride much as Christmas with non-riding family taken over, so all work and no fun. Feel guilty I’m not entertaining/caring for the horses enough. Actually woke in the night in a panic thinking I’d forgotten to feed them! Which might have stemmed from the fact that I’ve run out of feed (plz don’t ring rspca, they only have happy hoof anyway and I’ve enough for today and will buy more tmr, got loads of hay and carrots!) and it’s Sunday..

Said family also wearing a bit thin now and need to go home/back to school.

And can’t moan to family as they always say, ‘don’t have horses then’. So the whole thing is of my own making, and first world problems. Which then makes me feel guilty for feeling like this.

Am thinking a ride might help cheer me up but the weather is shite and by the time I’ve lugged all the wet straw to my messy muck heap (another job that needs doing) my back is aching and I just want to go inside for a cuppa and a cuddle with the nice warm indoor people (ie the dogs and cats)

However, mist is actually lifting, could get the hi vis on and go out for a nice hack…sod the mucking out, can do it after…

Not seen the sun in days its been horrible and gloomy not ridden since Christmas eve that was the last sunny day it was lovely and rode both of mine.

Had no motivation to ride since it did say sun today but its still really foggy and freezing.

It been grey and murky for days here today a little sun but quite cold .
Everywhere looks grey and yesterday my wellies sprung a leak cold wet feet doesn't help my mood.
Still clearing up from storm Darragh the fence panels I ordered to replace ones damaged in the storm are not arriving as I was told due to shortages and so I have been given a refund which is fine but I really wanted the panels!!
We have a couple of panels and plenty of posts to do the worse bit but as they are forecasting torrential rain and strong winds for Tuesday and Wednesday no point starting the clear up and replacement until that's gone through.
I just feel everything is conspiring against us.
The panels I need to order are in short supply and no one can supply before mid to end January.everyone had panels trashed or lost in the storm.
Hopefully we can use what we have to tidy up a bit and then crack on at the beginning of February.
We are away in the sun the last two weeks of January but hopefully can get everything dog proof before we go.
Hope we don't get a cycle of these storms every couple of weeks.
I hate winter!!!?

I too have the post Xmas blues I've been ill adjacent for 2 weeks now and it's dragging ooon. I mustered up some jollity for Xmas and family but now I'm shattered again and it's really effecting my mood. I could have done with the 4 day weekend we had last year rather than going in and out of work super short staffed and stressed. Managed a quiet pootle up the lane yesterday and D hasn't going wild but I don't think we're going to manage any of our Jan plans at this rate.

Similar over here too - have hardly ridden over Christmas due to illness and OH’s work commitments, the relentless grey mist and fog is depressing, the beds are absolutely soaked every morning so mucking out feels relentless, plus I clipped both again this morning so have horse hair in my eyeballs (how? Even after a shower!)

Yay, I rode, and they weren’t too bad, and I am feeling much better, fog has lifted, literally and figuratively!!

Haven’t finished mucking out though, managed the beds but not the turnouts.. Oh well, will enjoy doing them later in the dark!!

But hasn’t it been depressing? Just grey and foggy every day and the layer of wetness over everything.

Was lying in bed this morning wondering if I can carry on much longer doing these winters. But if it wasn’t such a struggle, I don’t think we would appreciate the simple things which can make you feel actual euphoria. How many non-horse people would be genuinely elated when a bit of fog lifts just enough to allow a hack?!

Or was it that MIL has just driven off…

You don't have a horse problem, or even a winter problem, you have a family problem. Tell them to sod off home ;) Alright, probably not an option, as tempting as it might be.

It's brighter today that it was yesterday anyway. Small mercies

Haha, the last of the extended fam has gone now, thank god, but sadly I cannot tell the OH and kids to sod off, much as I’d like to sometimes!! Gloomy, flumping teenagers moaning about being stuck in the middle of now where and irate middle-aged man…super fun.

Anyway, the OH is a bit less grumpy today as the last of the oldies has now gone (home, that is)

Got a pony out this morning, washed and oiled her legs, brushed her tail thru. Depressing as she will be almost bad tomorrow 🫣 hey ho, spring will be here soon
I had grand plans about doing this but D decided to tit about after being so good during our little walk school. Turned out her field mate had the zoomies and was screaming her head off they really pick their moments.

This time of year is always a struggle, I find, especially when it comes to family who don't usually give you the time of day acting like you're the bad guy you won't join in the perfect family Christmas facade! Like @setterlover I'm still clearing up after storm Darragh, have taken time off work to do so. Weather is rubbish, but fencing etc needs sorting, except I ran out with a few meters to spare! I have a new equine friend to play with, who can be ridden, but the weather isn't inspiring and I need to buy everything tack wise for him, which is making me sad and poor! At least he's having a settling in period I suppose. Hope you all feel a bit brighter soon

I'm bumping as this winter is feeling hard! Last weekend we had snow and ice so thick we needed hammers to break it. This weekend we have no water anywhere because there is burst water main up the valley. We've had 90mph winds and storms since November I'm shattered and my back is beggered.

The relentless grey skies are getting me down, but at least the fields are drying up. Can't wait for the pheasant shooting to finish at the end of January, then I can get out hacking again. I'm surrounded by 3 shoots and they don't put up signs to warn you, just let off 20 guns at a time where-ever. Then, not satisfied with shooting every day of the week, the locals shoot crows along the main bridleway on Sundays. It's like living in a war zone.

I make an effort to find out who runs the shoots to find out the dates. As for shooting near bridleways, I'm not sure that's legal? They must be so many meters from the public or a road. Is it just the shots you can hear?

I thin

I'm sure they play within the rules, it's just the amount of shooting we get. We get lots of gunshots but it's the shouts and whoops of the beaters that really alarm the horses. I can't really complain as we live in the countryside and rent a field from one of the farmers, so don't want to upset the applecart. My poor dog refuses to go for walks though, so we have to take her elsewhere in the car.
