Yeah defo in middle of them. Fed up with dark wet morning, field being a bog, both horses rolling for england and making sure mud pack is firmly attached to any exposed coat!!!. And at mo having the delights of exercising on the roads with 'school mum' driving to contend with!!!

ROLL on crimbo and spring, so at least we will all have a bit more light to see how muddy we are!

Oooooooooo and to top it off, i've picked up stomach bug so can't eat to make myself feel better

........... sofa calling, cat cuddling and day dreaming about planning next year's eventing season - it's all i'm fit for at mo

So how do you survive the blues?????????

Oh dear cheer up chick
smile.gif

Winter sucks but this year it's not been so bad as I have lots more waterproof and thermal gear so only get a wet and cold head and hands at worst!

so tip 1 invest in technical clthing and wrap up

I survive it by not beating myself up about not riding as much in the week because of the dark and wet. I Pessoa twice instead of schooling during the week which is quicker and easier than schooling/jumping in the evenings, and hire yourself an indoor every now and again to catch some wind/rain free time

mudwise I have tried canter shining but they still get plastered in a full neck deep rug they both can get mud on their withers!!!!????!!! so I think im gonna get a hood to try and eliminate that

exercise - go for a run or hit the gym those endorphines will boost your mood and you will feel much better the easier option is hot bath and chocolate does the same thing

I guess just counting the days till spring, and not being too hard on yourself about not doing so much with them this time of year helps. I used to feel v down if weather was too bad to ride but if you just accept it, and think to yourself well this is our down time and they deserve the odd day off after this season you won't feel so guilty/miffed

Also other distractions such as xmas shopping, decorating, cooking stuff will occupy you...

Hope you feel better soon love and hugs x

Have been really struggling too, soooo looking forward to solstice and the return of the light

, but feb can be the worst month for me, we might have a bit more light and spring round the corner but we ofter get hard frost for long periods, and last year had two weeks of snow, that was hard.

But the odd days where i'm tacked up and warming up as the sun comes up, and weekends where i can get evening stables at least started in the light, those fresh (light) frosty days, a pleasing schooling session before work - cant beat it. Honest

Normally I would be the same but for once I have changed the way I think about things and feel very fired up about getting training and improving things in. Also helps that horse is sound for first time in 18 months.

Take a look at the Badminton grassroots website. That might cheer you up

I see they are definitely putting up stabling for us and just dream about winning the £600 first prize

That should sort out the winter blues

Im the same I get up at 5am to ride in the mornings then finish them off about 5.30 so I never see them in the light!! Till the weekends of course! At least it isnt too cold, but it is very wet

God, I struggle with 5.45 too, and don't even ride in the mornings. Lately I'm really having to force myself into the saddle. I'm always fine once I've started but muddy horses, wet arenas, etc - just get me down. We even have an indoor and I'm still being useless about motivation. My horse got really hot tonight and I had to wait over an hour for him to cool off to feed, despite being fully clipped - twice. I think I'm going to have to clip him again unless it turns cold soon. Hate this damp mild wet muddy CRAP.

moan moan moan.

Having had all summer off with injuries I would love to be able to ride in the evenings but as I've got no facilities they only get ridden at weekends (and only then if they're sound)! I am struggling with the battle with my mare's mudfever too which, touch wood, finally seems to be getting better

.

still not feeling grand though, at least it's stop raining

It could be worse, I woke up this morning to find my heating and hot water broken, and the horse is definately unsound again. Vet and boiler repair coming later. To add to this, the horsebox is broken and will cost ££££ to repair, and I've broken something in my hand. I would quite look forward to a nice dark muddy and peaceful hack!
Although I don't think it's quite bad enough to force me to take out gym membership
