Hi all,

Now the cold is finally here I'm taking the plunge and getting some waterproof trousers/chaps.

What do you prefer, chaps or trousers - and which pair do you recommend?

Rach

I'd always prefer trousers rather than chaps as the problem with chaps is that your bum always gets cold & wet!!

I've got some luvverly MUSTO waterproof overtrousers; they do what it says on the tin and I've never been cold in them.

The problem I have with a lot of proprietory brands - particularly Mountain Horse - is that they're always way too long in the leg for those of us who're a tad vertically challenged (manufacturers please take note).

I bought some normal camping ones... thin, light, waterproof and ... STRONG! Had them 10 winters now... :)

Mark Todd waterproof riding over trousers. Four waterproof pockets, full length side zips so you can take them on/off without removing boots, reflective strips, snow gaiters, very comfortable, and as lightly padded, toasty too! Mine are in their second winter now, I wear them to work in our freezing cold shop, realistically they're getting at least 50 hours wear a week at the moment.

Harry Hall portsea or kensington

Both waterproof and have reflective binding down the sides, rubber seat and all the way down the inside leg.

The portsea has 2 reflective bands round each bottom of the legs

I wear mine 24/7! Love them!

Never get wet and I ride a lot of horses
