Is anyones horses winter coat starting to come through at all? Just Buddy's is looking like its starting to come through, think i might start putting his lightweight rug on him.

I am truly disgusted. I just brought my lot in and they're all SHEDDING their summer coats....... Have chucked rugs on pronto - they'll be like wooly mammoths by september at this rate

Yup Jake started last week. He has only just got his summer one thru. It happens at this time every year for him.

Glad you confirmed my thoughts.I look after a 25 year old French pony . In the day here the temps are in the 30's, then at night they fall rapidly. He is rolling and shedding hair, then his coat is getting thicker, bit of a dilemma, but no way is he having a rug, he doesnt seem to have had his feet oiled in his life, and certainly not used to fly spray before he came to me.

Apologies for being thick but why do you need to chuck on 'a light weight on PRONTO' if the horse is acquiring a winter coat?!

I have noticed the same on my TB but have continued to keep her bug rig on - its too warm for a lightweight.

Honestly, I am enquiring as a novice.

You chuck a rug on in a desperate attempt to fool the ned's body into thinking that being warm = still summer so winter coat stops trying to come through! Yes, my 2 are already cheerfully starting to shed their summer coats. Oh god - I feel the winter rota rows starting already..... someone pass the valium ...
