Is anyone finding it hard to find places that are well lit to walk their dogs in the winter?

Cant wait for summer again!

My Border Collie is not impressed with his on lead pavement walks !

i've got flashing collars from pets at home and just walk the fields as normal with dogs running about... then i can see where they are...
they walk to heel on the roads getting to the fields...

Yes deffo. I don't have any lit parks near me and although I would love to take dooglie out in the evening we have no where safe.

I live in the middle of nowhere and in a heavily wooded area, so all my walking has to be done before 5pm or take them to training field, which is floodlit, but don't fancy 45 minutes drives after a hard day's work

Yes, that is the trouble I am having. I dont mind the dogs off lead in the dark but its a bit unnurving walking in the dark at night on your own...

This is the one time I'm happy to live in the city with a dog. The boardwalk along the Hudson River--which runs for about twelve miles--is brightly lit and populated by a steady stream of runners, cyclists and walkers, even in deepest winter. It's on lead, but still, last night we walked for 90 minutes well past 8pm.

I walk Henry round the fields at work in the evenings, since it is in the middle of nowhere, and we have people who live on site I feel safe. Henry has a flashing collar, with a bell attached, and a flashing LED light which I clip onto a harness, and I take my torch.

I still don't like doing it much but Henry needs the exercise so I don't have much choice.

We just continue to go in the fields as normal, no road walking required to get there

Don't let them off the lead though, they have to make do with extending leads.

It doesnt bother me in the least luckily tramping around the fields in the pitch dark - it actually used to worry me a lot more walking around Ledbury (little town) after dark

I never bother with a torch, I can always see OK

And Islay never gets off the lead anyway since she is a fixated hunter, so only Flick is disapointed

Otto has his mad, off-the-lead charge around at 7am, before OH goes to work. It's plenty light enough by then.
The rest of his walks are around the farm, on the lead, in the dark. He would be fine off his lead, however he tends to try and munch the various feathered animals

Same summer and winter for ours, they run around our field in the morning and the evening, sun, rain, light, dark, it's all the same! They get other walks in the summer as well though, whereas in winter extra walks are limited to weekends and shooting.

In past years I have used the flashing collars. They are brilliant (pardon the pun) especially as my dogs are mostly black. I also have a choice of a couple of green lanes and similar places to walk them. Mind you I am a bit of a wus when in the dark on my own.
However, I am now in the fortunate position of only working part time so am able to go out in the afternoons in daylight.
