Winter fluff? Surely not. Anybody else's horses getting hairy already?

When I lived in Scotland my horses always started getting their coats about mid-August. It is day length and not temperature which is the trigger.
 
Good grief Despite being rugged Micah has been going hairy for weeks (6 or more) He came from Czech republic last Oct so shouldn't really feel the cold :p
 
My little grey NF is sooo hairy! she's molting summer coat everywhere! but then its gna get all hot again and she's gna molt her long hair n grow her summer again, just in time for the cold weather to come BACK and then she will explode in a big ball of grey fluff :)
 
My piebald trad cob is hairy and horrible! When I groom him its like a snowstorm of white hairs; which travel with me EVERYWHERE!! i.e. house, car, shops, etc.

I've made the decision to have someone else to clip him; after a total disaster with my old horse (poor old chap), where I hired some clippers and they gave up the ghost half-way through and he looked like an RSPCA case, I'm gonna have someone in to do it this year, first clip anyway, then coz he's got lots of feather I might do a DIY job on just his legs.

I'm going for the full clip. If left to his own devices he gets an incredibly long coat and as there's so much white on him its horrendous to keep him clean, so its all coming off! One helluva lot easier methinks.
 
Three out of four of mine are turning fluffy, little coloured mare has her winter ears already, really cute, just my younger TB that is still nice and smooth, all are in l/w at night and if nice in the day nude....... Think I will be clipping two of them in the next couple of weeks..........
 
Well I clipped my horse last night and he's now in his Autumn rug. He was too sweaty at his ODE on Sun so it had to come off. The native veterans will begin being rugged very shortly as well.

Don't know why some of you are gasping at snow forecast for late October - we're forecast it for THIS month (annoying as we still have 2 BE events left up here)!
 
no sleek and shiny still - however if this wind and rain persists am sure it wont take long!!! she is rugged up though as 7/8th TB
 
In the days when I used to go to burghley, we always used to find that we left the horses looking all sleek and summery, and returned four days later to hairy greasy beasties! So I think this is fairly normal (here anyway!).
 
Yup its particularly noticable in the old palomino chap he has lost his lovely deep golden summer coat and has gone all pale and fluffety :) V is getting a bit more fluffy now to.
