Well thats it, winter has begun for me!!. Have five horses and having to feed four bales of hay a day between them and also hard feed, no grass at all, burnt off and brown.
Just hope we get some rain soon before its too cold for the grass to grow !!!! NIGHTMARE !!!

Poor you. I've got too much grass, and am back to strip grazing it. Can't win can we?
 
We still have lots of grass where the mares are, thankfully. The lads have a whole untouched two and a half acre field to head into, so will have to strip graze that one, or keep thme off it during the day.
 
We keep having to be moved out of whatever field we are in, because the horses can't keep on top of it. YO puts his Shires and cows in to get the rest of ti.

Vet told Star she needed to lose 20kg......she was mortified!
 
Wow we are having the opposite problem we have tons of grass, we have had to top fields horses are in as grass was too long.
It is still growing like crazy hope it carries on.:)
 
Honestly guys our ground is so cracked you could stick a finger down them, its rock hard and grass is the colour of hay, I have never seen it so bad. Forgotten what green grass looks like !!!!!
 
I am in shropshire too and all my summer fields which I would normally strip graze untill october are yellow, we had a bit of rain the last few days but only soaked down to 1cm. Big cracks in the ground, and when I pulled a few docks up after 1 hours worth of rain the roots were bone dry and dusty. Thankgod I have winter fields which have been empty since early april, so when winter does arrive we will move on to them.
 
Got the opposite problem here, never stopped raining but need to get the horses in as my field is too wet and starting with mud fever. I'd sooner leave them out a bit longer but no...
 
We're stripgrazing for the first time ever as we've got too much grass.

I wouldn't worry too much. the long range weather forecast sounds as though there's going to be a fiar bit of rain, and September often produces a good flush round about the equinox.
 
I'm in Sussex and this has been the first summer for about 3/4 years where we have had grass, and plenty of it. The past two years we have ad libbed hay in the field as our ground sounds like what you have in Shropshire.
