I've never been a fair weather rider & go out in all conditions but a lot of my stuff has got mislaid moving yards & worn out of the years. I want to get kitted up with all things waterproof & warm for riding out this winter as I've put some money aside.

What are your favourite things that keep you warm & dry over winter?

I've just bought some lovely ear warmers which I think are amazing! But on the look out now for a good jacket which doesn't leak at the seams, trousers that are actually waterproof & comfy that don't ride up as you go, & also gloves! What do you recommend?

Pony has a selection of various exercise sheets so he's all ok! Its just me lol!

I got a pair of Horseware H2O trousers as I refused to pay the price of the racing ones as I never found them very waterproof. They withstood some utterly vile weather on wednesday - torrential downpours of both rain and hail! and did me 4 lots before i got slightly damp on the inside of my knees and thighs on the 5th lot. But I didn't know until I took them off that I was ever so slightly damp on the inside! So a massive thumbs up from me! If they can survive that then they will be fine for what winter normally throws at us!

I have a softshell hi-viz jacket for hacking which is fantastically warm and dry. It really does stop the wind from going through you. I bought it from a regular workwear website, but I’d recommend a softshell layer in general for warmth.

Equetech do fantastic thermal under breeches, quite cheap but amazing.

I usually combine these with Toggi Usk waterproof riding trousers which are the best waterproof over trousers I have found for riding.

General yard work - look at ski gear - TK Maxx or Decathlon the best.

I ride out in Le Mieux Thermal Winter Work gloves, or should I say a cheaper equivalent (about £6 from Amazon).

Thanks for the recommendation, I have been looking at the Equetech thermals and wondering if they are better than normal thermals that do tend to bunch up a bit. Off to buy some.

I've got Toggi Arctic breeches which are fab, warm and dry all day long and they wash well.

I've got a Musto BR1 coat which is very reliable at keeping me warm and dry. I got the bright yellow option (Basic type of high viz for around the yard, hacking on the farm ride etc) so it needs washing a lot but it washes well with the waterproofing stuff.

I love my Noble outfitters cosy cowl for riding in but it can get a bit warm if you start mucking out in it.

Toggi waterproof over trousers. I had some insulated ones too I think they’re mark todd. Also sealskinz winter riding gloves. I have a seriously vintage musto ‘snugs’ bright yellow coat that I wear out riding which is warm and dry (try eBay!).

Sealskinz gloves are the best , usually buy cycling ones in the sale at go outdoors rather than the equestrian ones
Rambo overtrousers, they are lightly padded but very comfy to wear, and for warmth Musto snug jods

Another vote for Sealskinz, I have the riding gloves and the cycling gloves, both hi-viz. I wouldn't recommend buying the hi-viz ones though as they get dirty and stop being hi-viz! Also don't wash them as it destroys the waterproof lining. I also have a Sealskinz bush hat and that is great for when it's chucking it down. Re coats/jackets, I don't bother buying horsey ones any more as they are so expensive, although I do appreciate that if you spend hours in the saddle then you might want one that is cut for riding (so it covers your bum and top of legs). I bought a waterproof coat from Sports Direct - it's a proper make (I think it's Regatta or one of the similar brands) and it's great, and a fraction of the price of a horsey one. Oh, and for cold (not wet) weather a fleecey neck-warmer is the best thing ever.

Musto snug jodphurs which I bought accidently as wrong (cheaper!) price tag on and I couldn't be bothered to return them. Glad I didn't though they may have cost a bomb but they are literally the most comfortable trouser item I own. Wore them on holiday in Iceland too. Really warm and comfy.
I tend to layer under a waterproof coat but I've got some great furry hoodies which are warm and thermal base layer off amazon which cost less than a tenner

I love my Ariat coat. It’s been properly waterproof even when I’ve been out in the rain all day and has back zips for riding. The hood is big enough to go over a hat too (not that I’m ever likely to actually ride in the rain!)

Musto jacket is my winter lifesaver. It's light weight but warm and waterproof. My current one I found in TKmaxx for £70, it's bright blue but in my eyes still a bargain!

there are cheaper riding skirts (and without the import tax) than those-not quite so pretty but still-think one was Finn Tack.

I have a Horseware Ardan coat as a yard coat-they don't make them anymore but its amazing, waterproof, really light and warm with a great hood, not a riding coat though. I have a couple of pairs of soft-shell trousers/breeches and some H2O pull-ups, Roekl winter chester gloves. for riding I have a Decathlon jacket which I am really impressed with-plus plenty of buffs which I wear under my riding hat to keep my ears warm.

The riding skirts look amazing. I've always loved my long coat that keeps my knees dry, but the skirts are a cut above that! Wonderful... now I want one or three... where's that money tree gone?

I was looking at these recently. How do they come up size wise do you think?

Percussion clothing - made for the shooting field so warm, functional and waterproof - unlike most equestrain stuff which is made for the fashion market and leaks like a sieve!!

I have regatta over trousers that were about £20 they’re warm and waterproof and have zips on the leg so I can get my boots on. I like them so much I bought 2 pairs for when ones mud splattered. Coat wise I have a hi viz builders jacket off eBay that was £15. It’s big enough to fit my down jacket on underneath.
Gloves I need to sort!

I use Heat Holder thermal socks and Marks & Spencer thermal base layers.

Toggi or Decathalon winter jodhpurs and breeches are fleece lined and water repellant. I have Rambo fleece lined full chaps but if very wet I'll ride in Berghaus waterproof trousers I got from TK Maxx.

I use Kramer softshell winter riding gloves.

I bought fleece riding hat ear warmers off eBay & use fleece neck warmers as they'll dry quickly. I really like my Snuggy Hood one, as it comes high up my neck.

Coat wise I tend to use my Musto for riding when wet or Rockfish Rider high viz coat if hacking. Around the farm, I just use Regatta coats - I have a few!

I really want Mountain Horse Rimfrost Rider boots, but couldn't quite justify the cost of them this year when I have neoprene half chaps.

I have Just Chaps water proof, wind proof and fleece lined long chaps. (I have medium size and I would recommend any one who is more than a size 12 to go larger as they are not generous in cut.) A Musto jacket, bought in a sale at least two years ago, and I buy ski gloves from Aldi/Lidl or Trago Mills, they are really in expensive and if you get a couple of pairs there is usually a pair left for the following winter to get started with! Good thick thermal socks are a must too.
