Do you think there would be people out there who would be willing or want to loan their horse out for the winter?

I have had my confidence knocked by my horse, he is green and needs an experienced rider, hopefully I have found him an excellent home now, I haven't given up but have tried for 3 yrs now.

I am hoping to get something to hack around on during the winter then buy something next year when my confidence is back to normal. Obviously a good school master (weight carrier) would be ideal but they are like hens teeth. Or should I just buy, but then will I "grow" out of it and have to sell it on, which I really dont want to go through.

Also my horses all live out 24/7 so I would understand some would prefer their horses to be stabled.

My brain is going to explode lol.

Don't no where you live but a lot of the trekking centres loan their horses and ponies out for the winter.

Sorry I should have said I am in North Shropshire.

I dont have many treking centres around here but that is a good idea and worth a few phone calls I think. The only thing is it has to be good in traffic as we come out on to a fairly busy urban road (only for 400 yards or so) and trekers might not be used to that.

I should think there'd be plenty of people willing to have their horse out on loan for the winter!!!! :)
the 24/7 turnout might be a problem thought but I'd bet that someone would have their horses out 24/7....
I'd go for it, and I hope you find a lovely confidence giving horse who'll do you some good!

If only you posted this last year LOL!!! I was desperately looking for a 4/6 month winter loan last year, but couldn't find one! Ended up turning him away.

Might be worth posting ads on every single free ad site on T'intenet.

You shouldn't be too far from PGL Activity Centre - type it in on google and look for one in the Shrewsbury area
I loaned a pony called Fred from there for 2 winters on the trot - he was amazing!
They will find you one according to how you feel but bear in mind most of them do not like doing things alone!! :)
They insure you, the horse you have and the tack so no worries there...
Collection and delivery is up to you but they will (if they can) help you out with this...
No formalities - all they do is get you to sign a contract and off you go...
First year i had one visit - next year i had nobody turn up :)
I still miss that pony - offered to buy him and offered way more than he should be worth and they still said no...
Hence how i ended up with my Beastie :D

Im sure you will find the ideal horse a lot of people would be queing to loan you there pefect horses for the winter

It should be relatively easy to find a winter loan, to echo what other people have said, put ads on free websites, locally, word of mouth, take a look at freeads etc especially say through September onwards, sometimes a surge of horses for sale/loan! :)

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree!! I might leave it till after August and advertise as suggested.
