Well K has been rugless now for about a week (actually hasnt rained here in that long *Shock Horror *) and he has REALLY fluffed up got a cracking start on his winter coat and I have to say my fingers are ITCHING to clip it all off :cool:, this is the first year in about 7/8 years hes not had a full clip by now :o Not going to though as he is effectively on hacking duties til Spring as I need to keep costs down until then and clipping means Ill need to pump feed and hay into him to help maintain his weight.

Ive moved him into another field which is about 4 acres of untouched rough grassland with some trees in the middle, hes got it all to himself and is REALLY happy about it :D :D So hoping this will see him out the worst of the winter, will give him some hay if he requires it but Im hoping whats in there will suffice him til at least after new year ;)

Its to be really heavey freezing rain tonight so popped his lightweight rug back on as dry cold hes fine but wet you can watch the weight fall off him :rolleyes: :o

Winter ready pony?? His bucket with his daily suppliments, he comes galloping up like its Xmas when i appear with his wee blue bucket, even through there's pretty much a couple of mouthfuls in it lol :D :D

Hes the only one I own :D Fine on his own not a debate on WHY hes on his own please my horse thanks :D

He will get it IF he needs is, 4 acres of untouched rough grass I dont think he will need it right now ;)

Hes chewing haha :D
 
Bless him! I don't see why he should need any extra hay if the weight stays on.

My dude is being kept similar to yours (e.g. un clipped, un rugged - just without the bonus of supplements) in a 10 acre field which has roughage up to my chest in it. He's with 8 horsey buddies and is as happy as larry!
 
Thanks FG I don't think he will need hay for a while! I have a big round sitting in the hay store for him along with 15 bales of straw for bedding but hoping I'm not using it :)
 
Mine had never bothered about being on his own and I had him on the farm forr 5years with just the cows and the sheep and his temperament was no different than it was when he was on livery :)
 
Lol!! Well hes sporting a nice mud mohawk tonight!! obviously rolled in a clay mud part of the fild and is sporting ginger highlights in his mohawk!! Hoping for a good bit of rain to wash it out as would hate to have to bath him before I ride him lol!! :rolleyes:
 
He looks well enough to me, a lovely boy. You are doing the right thing by being quick to rug if needed and having hay on hand too. I'd be tempted to weightape him while he's looking well covered and continue weekly as it's easier to start feeding if he starts to drop weight. :) (baler twine will do with a knot for current size if you don't have a tape)

Yep ive got stuff sitting if necessary but hoping i wont be using it quite yet :D

I might actually weigh tape him would be interesting to see what hes sitting at :)
