Now that the dreaded winter will soon be upon us just wondered what time in morning and evening do you go up to your ponies to feed? Mine is fed around 6.30 -7.00 in mornings but as I work full time can't get there until around 6.45 in evenings. Always feel guilty when he is stood waiting at gate for me. What are your times?

I feed mine when I get to the yard so about 7.15am - he's tied up outside his stable with his breakfast and haynet whilst I muck out. He goes out in the field about 7.30/7.45am and is bought in about 4/4.30pm to a haynet and nutball.

I usually feed him in the evening once I've finished stable chorse/exercising or riding of an evening - so anywhere from 6.30-8.30pm.

As long as he has free access to forage, which he does, he doesn't seem fussed what time he's fed!

The whole yard is fed at a set time. If you want to read you have to leave a note in the feed to say "please don't feed" or ring the YO and tell her not to feed. My horse is often worked when others are fed due to the time I get up at the weekends and then stands in his stable very patiently until he has stopped sweating/is dry and then I will feed him, but not all horses are like that and I know of some that would kick their doors if they weren't fed at the same time.

Ours are fed around 7am and always at 4pm, weekdays and weekends. Its amazing how you can see their body clocks working and they know when they are about to be fed before they even hear the clatter of the feed bins! I didn't like the idea of not feeding my own horse when I wanted to, but 16 months down the line am used to it now.

The yard I was on before catered for about 40+horses/ponies and they were all fed at different times and we never had any kicking or banging of the doors.
