I was just wondering what others routines are for winter, looking to pick up a few tips.

Also how long does your horse go from your last night visit to morning feeding?

winter routine
. horse lives out as along as possible 24/7. only comes in if ground is disgustingly wet.
either ad lib hay in the field usually after xmas as the fatty needs to loose weight so has restricted hay, a small amount given daily.

My top tip is straw nets!! If you have a fatty and are paranoid about feeding them to much hay but dot want to leave them to long with no food then have a straw net alongside the hay net. That way once they have finished the good stuff they still have something to pick at :)

Am guessing from your question that yours will be in, at night if not during the day.

We are lucky enough to be able to turn out whenever we need but as a rule of thumb, ours are out from 6.30am until sometime after 5pm, which is the earliest anyone can get there. If the weather is OK, they may be out until 7pm-ish. They then tend to be worked (have an outdoor school which is usable in most weathers) and then fed and left for the night at about 8pm. YO lets the dog out about 10pm and will do a quick check but not do anything with them.

All have enough hay to last the night and we don't feed in the morning so they go straight out at 6.30am, although we hay in the field when necessary, which usually isn't until after Christmas.
