I found the rules for the Summer events which include orienteering but where can I find the rules for the Winter indoor events. I have been on the BHS site but found nothing

the rules for individual obstacles are basically the same.

the main differences are that there will be no orienteering (although winter trecs often offer a mapped route to ride) and the PTV will have 10 obstacles rather than 16 as they have outside.
Obviously they are limited by the size of the arena so the obstacles will be close together and it being completely level so obstacles such as banks and inclines are usually absent!

The CoP will often be shorter than it would be outside and usually takes place around the edge of an arena.

Schedules will usually include basic rules of dress and equipment.

have a look on the trec-uk forum and google fopr videos.

The Winter Indoor ones only do the Control of Paces and the obstacles.

The control of paces is generally around the outside of the school. At some you do the canter and then turn round and walk back, in others you start your round with a canter and finish the round with the walk. Don't forget to go through the start and finish.

Other than that, the course will contain a selection of Trec type obstacles, suitable for indoor. So there may be a couple of jumps, a S bend either ridden or led or both, a gate to open, bending poles, immobility, mounting, a maypole, a bridge. All the obstacles are listed in the Trec Rule Book. The round will be timed, but it isn't a desperate race to get through. If you really do not want to do an obstacle you can still miss it out, but you MUST tell the judge or you will be eliminated for missing it. If you tell the judge you will not get any marksfor that obstacle but you won't be elminiated from the whole competition.

You don't have to carry any of the "extras" so just wear ordinary riding kit, i.e. jods, boots, whatever, with a jumper or similar, you don't have to wear a jacket but you must wear a hat with the Kitemark/safety standard clearly visible. You may wear a body protector if you want. Just be neat and tidy with appropriate dress, there is no need to plait the horse.

The schedules of the Trec competitions are usually fairly comprehensive, and you can always contact the Secretary with any queries.
