A mobile phone charger for the car. Nothing worse than having no battery when you are waiting for the AA/Rescue to come. A book to read in case you are stuck for any length of time.
Just a cautionary tale - if you have slid/broken down in an awkward position on the road no matter how cold/wet it is get out of the car - and move away from it if at all possible to a place of safety. I say this having known a friend who stayed in his car only to have another speeding vehicle slide into his car causing him serious injury.
