What do you usually wear around the yard in the winter?
Last year I was wearing tights or leggings under my jodphurs to keep warm, 3pairs of socks with thick boots, thermal top under usual tops and coat, scarf, gloves and hat which covers my ears and does up under my chin (not when riding so freeze when I have to switch to riding hat:rolleyes:) I probably looked quite silly :)
This year I think i'm just going to wear tracksuit bottoms with tights/leggings underneath, but my main probem is my hands as I have Raynauds which affects my fingers the most even with gloves.

Rambo fleece lined waterproof chaps over jodhs - wondered if they'd be worth the price tag but I lived in them. Toggi Canyon boots, Toggi down filled jacket & Mark Todd Thinsulate gloves.

My Musto fleece lined chaps are essential - I quite forgot what a difference they made until I went out without them once in the snow last year - only got to the end of the drive and had to turn right back round to put them on.

I advise you buy a pair of ski trousers, fantastic! Very cosy.

Also polo neck, hoody, body warmer, scarf, Thinsulate hat and gloves.

Not decided on decent pair of boots though. Previously had warm muck boots but the seems spit and they've gave up the ghost.

I bought full thermals, a ski jacket and ski trousers last year. Best buy ever - I was toasty warm all winter. They weren't expensive either being from Matalan on 20 % off day but lasted well and are fit for this winter too :)

Jeans, ski pants, (or lined jeans, or quilted coveralls) one pair of socks with Tynes., or snow boots, or DRs.

Polo neck, sweat shirt and quilted fleece lined plaid shirt or Carhartt jacket. Neckwarmer and baseball cap. Wool gloves, I have a dozen pairs and wear up to 3 pairs at a time.

:D I bear more than a passing resemblance to Michelin Man but who gives a toot? The horses certainly don't as long as I come bearing food ;) I have no one to impress and anyone that cares what I look like when it's -20C should be working in an office, not bugging me in my own barn :D

My two top tips are:

Buy a pair of Possum Fur insoles. You can get them on the internet from New Zealand and because they are so light they cost next to nothing in postage. They do look like dead animals I know but they are the most amazing, snug and cozy things you will ever come across.
If you don't like the idea of possum, then any make of insole put in your boots will make an incredible difference.

Get yourself a pair of long Alpaca socks. I paid £20 for mine last year and wore them all through the winter pretty much every day. The coolest thing is that because they are natural they don't smell and I swear that I only washed mine a couple of times. Again these can be bought on the internet, but make sure you don't get ones that are supposed to be bedsocks as they won't last more than a month.

Here's to toasty toes to you all this winter

Usually Ski Jacket, ski trousers and ski gloves plus a sherpa type hat. usually got too hot so had to remove the hat. This year I have a ski onesie wich i will probably wear with leggings and a polo neck and jumper, thick socks and hunters. Unless i find a pair of muck boots. My mum has them they are soo warm but quite clumsy. I got my ski gear when I was 14 I am now 22, not sure how I still fit them( probably because mum does the whole "you'll grow into them" thing!) I got my onesie off ebay this year for £25.00. TK maxx is where I got my old ski gear many moons ago. Btw, ski gloves are also waterproff great for getting ice out of water buckets-horses didn't seem to mind!

Full livery and go straight under my duvet when I get in from work!!!!

To be fair, the snow drifted for over a month last year and it wasn't worth the risk to go and see her when i was on full livery, just phoned and made sure she was still alive every day :)

Bromonts for riding in !

Last year I had a clapped out old golf with NO heating never again ! I carried a hot water bottle with me everywhere I went :(

Another vote here for thermal overtrousers. My OH bought me the mountain horse ones for Xmas last year, and I lived in them. Best thing ever! Plus they're waterproof, I used to hose most of the mud off before putting them in the washing machine and they come up like new everytime.

I'll also be off to TK maxx soon for a new ski jacket, I bought one there from the kids section about 6yrs ago for £15! Total bargain! and it's been brill until I ripped it on the some barbed wire last year, gutted!

Fleece tights, jogging bottoms, musto overtrousers, long socks (primark), tyne sport boots, long sleeved running top (nothing colder than getting a bit of a sweat on if you're in cotton), fleece top, musto paddock coat, with a ski hat on. For around the yard I have ski gloves and for schooling I have roekl winter gloves, still need a super warm pair of gloves for hacks that don't have my hands falling off!
