Winter weather...we've been warned..

As they haven't managed to get the weather forecast correct yesterday or today I'm not too bothered about their long range predictions. They also said we would have a barbecue summer - I'm still waiting on that one!
On the other hand, if it is going to be another cold winter, it will mean less mud.

..........scurries off to ebay to buy those water carriers I kept meaning to buy ...... oh god and my Christmas shopping

Thank god we bought the 4x4 last year I had a 1988 vw golf with no heating ! I carried a hot water bottle everywhere on my lap and alternated steering wheel hands !! I also had a broken finger and couldn't wear gloves !!

Well if it is true, I am going to have my boob reconstruction done early November so will be not riding or mucking out for a few months so I hope it will be gone when I can get back in the saddle.

I hope we have plenty of snow for my skiing in France in March - this year it was not great due to lack of snow.

I am pleased that I have my hay ordered and had got a bit extra in case the weather was like it was last year.

*sings* Santa clause is coming, Santa clause is coming.

Sorry Couldn't help it.:D

*Fetches gun* Start running you:mad:

On the upside, this does give me a cracking excuse / reason to order my new shiny winter boots a bit early:D Tuffa Suffolks will be coming my way, am a bit too excited by this prospect!:o:D

Im a little bit excited!! I have orderd round bales of hay, they have lots of rugs, I have my ski suit onezie and its only really my Dartmoor that will be coming in at nights so looking forwards to a less stressful winter. Im feeling quite prepared! Having said that Im pretty sure the novelty of snow will wear off after a couple of days. But I do like to play in snow and it looks very pretty. Its when its just icy its a b*gger.end up shovelling muck heap onto yard to make it less of an ice rink and it looks so messy but it does save broken legs.Does anyone here nick grit out of the bins?? I haven't yet but its very tempting. may start filling up a wheelie bin...

Please don't do this.

1. It is theft, if you want grit buy it yourself.
2. It is provided by the council and all our council tax is paying for it, why should we pay for you to have a private supply.
3. What happens when the bin is empty? The street it was supplied for can't be gritted, the grit bins are provided because there is a particular need, so due to your theft there will probably be an old lady with a broken hip due to slipping on a steep pavement.
4. When the council runs out of grit main roads don't get gritted leading to accidents, injury, gridlock, loss to business etc. Nicking grit from bins increases the amount of grit the council needs when supplies (and funds) are tight.

Last winter theiving gits nicked the grit from the bin near our house. Meaning that our steep road could not be gritted. This road leads down a steep hill to the main road out of town, and the bus stop, the road became trecherous for both pedestrians and cars.

Buy yourself a shovel and your own supply of grit.

Cat litter works well in lieu of grit, I have a bag ready from last year and will be sticking it in the car once the weather gets bad. Please don't nick it - it's put where it's really needed and it's not free, everyone pays for it. If you order a few bags in now you should be able to keep yourself going without putting other people in danger.

Oh wonderful - I love it - far preferred last winter (cold and dry) to wet wet wet!

My section a started growing his winter coat in the first week of August so I thought he knew something I didn't!!

Sooooo pleased I have a landrover!

allright allright, settle pettle I said I havn't done it but its very tempting. BUT if your going to go down the "we pay for it in taxes" then I too pay for it in taxes. I have never received benefits and was privately educated (you wouldnt know by my spelling) so....maybe I should make up for this in grit....:D

I have never done this before but I admit I am tempted.surely it is better to take it now before the demand and so it gets re-filled than to get when everyone needs it?!?!thus saving the old lady breaking her hip. But I will probably just go down the shovellin ***** on my yard. or maybe cat litter I do like that idea everywhere had sold out last year couldnt get table salt either.
Manure is free though and I do have a constant supply.

You get grit!!!!!
We get gravel put in the grit bins that doesn't do a fecking thing, other than make the pavements really slippy in March once the snow has gone because there is all this loose gravel on the pavement.

You do realise that by 'moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK' they mean Scotland.
Loved last year when the people in our offices in London started complaining about the snow in December last year.....we had already had it for 3 or 4 weeks by that point.

I like this!! I actually thought the yellow bins were for driveways etc the council have lorries loaded with grit to do roads. And as there is one at the top of our driveway I don't see why I am not entitled to use it ( my yard is private just down our drive)istead of putting it on my drive I would be putting it on the yard its not a huge area Im not travelling all over the country collecting grit, just being prepared and giving the council a heads up on the old grit supply. I pay a huge amount of council tax - band F to have to wheel my own wheelie bin up the drive. Bin men are NOT what they used to be.

I do Nyrafluffly. The borders were a nightmare for weeks and then the flipping ice wouldnt go away after the snow had been packed down. We had a good April though! And Christmas day looked like it should do.

Wooo i'm getting excited now. ;)

Oh good, you'll be getting our winter again:D
I don't mind, just as long as we don't get your flipping rainfall.

Right, hopefully the councils will pull their fingers out of their bottoms and get their acts in gear this time, you'll be looking into getting pads for horse shoes, getting your winter tyres, your pipes lagged, your grit/salt, your sleds, snow shovels and shoe grippy things in advance ready for it, so NO BLOODY WHINGING when it does arrive please! :D

Enjoy the Autumn.:)

I can't wait! It means the boys can definetly stay out as our clay fields won't get waterlogged in wet, warm weather and their feathers stay lovely and clean, yay! I like a proper winter (but not a Scottish one). :D
