My boy has been bf behind since July and has been doing really well. During the summer I was able to keep a close eye on his feet and was treating him with hydrogen peroxide for slight thrush. I'm panicking now though because he goes out during the day into a small pen. The surface is mainly grit but there's a few puddles and mucky areas where he of course spends most of his time!! So his feet are literally always wet!! And there's less hacking time which I used as a gauge as to how his feet were feeling because if he was footy over the stony lane I knew to be treating for thrush. Now I've no way cos he's fine in his stable, his paddock and the arena! I washed his feet out tonight and examined them. They seem ok but his frogs look a bit raggedy if you know what I mean! I have them a good prod and they weren't spongyor anything they just look a bit "rough"
How do bare footers manage in winter conditions! I've stopped using the HP because his feet are always wet. He is still getting pro hoof and there's no cracks or splits. Help/advice/experience please!

My farrier said to stay away from peroxide, so I used red horse field paste which worked a treat. If the frogs are looking raggedy maybe he needs a trim or tidy up? It's difficult when you can't get much roadwork in isn't it!
My boy is no longer bare in front so I can't help much sorry - but do look into red horse products!
