Hey

Just wondering where people are XC schooling over thr winter months in my region the 2 venues I would use are both closed this winter Poplar and Stratford Hills.

There is of course Blackwater farm which is lovely but a 2.5hr journey and is a lot to travel each time to school so would love to find somehing closer.

Anyone any ideas? I was sure that Poplar didnt close last winter

oooh... I didnt realise Poplar closed either ! It certainly didnt shut last year...

What about Ely ?? that stays open. You could also trundle around UK chasers at Thetford for a change of scenery and some varied heights and options.

Well no one at my yard did either we wanted to practice there ready for March Trials but when I looked on line it said closed. ' as per web page We close the course between Christmas and the March trials, but otherwise it is available for use, with a discount for groups of 5 horses or more.

So could go this month I guess and then before xmas.

Rosie is going XC schooling at Herringswell on Friday but I don't know exactly where it is other than that it's near Bury St Edmunds/Newmarket.

Ely Eventing keep their course open for as long as the ground is good - and most of it being on well drained Fenland peat it's quite rare that it is shut for any length of time. There should be notices on the website, or FB page, if it is closed but at present it is open and likely to remain that way:D

TBH sometimes schooling where you intend to compete is a bad thing... if you have a problem it plays on your mind !! and last year they added some new things that caught a lot of riders out ;)

Its Rachel Uptons place but I dont think its available to the public ?? When we have used it we have been accompanied by a Pro...

*giggles*

Well you wouldn't want people saying it was unfair that the course was always the same so that people who could school regularly over it had an advantage:) There are pictures up on the website of how it looked for the recent unaffiliated HT but it doesn't look anything like that now as many of the jumps have changed location etc.

I know its no where near the same, but there are quite a few arena xc things on in this area this year. Finchingfield RC are doing a clear round arena xc/sj on Saturdays I think.

My fix will be going down to Mersea and jumping the seabreaks and drift wood (some of which was quite sizeable the other week!)and yes I do check behind them before jumping - or make my OH run ahead and check etc etc... before the patronising lectures start...!!
