wintering out rugless

My daughters section A is carrying a few extra pounds. Will wintering her out without a rug help her lose weight? She won't be doing much work over the winter so can't use exercise to help. She's always worn rugs up to now, will she be ok!!!

She should be fine, is there any shelter in the field? My Welsh D wintered out rugless last year. She went into winter a bit porky and came into spring a nice weight, she was on hard feed and ad lib hay during that time also and she certainly seemed happy enough.

really depends on where you are, weather this winter, horses age, if she grows a good thick coat, any shelter etc etc
