I thought I'd bought some decent wire cutters till I tried to cut some fence wire and they wouldn't go through it :(
Can anyone recommend some please?

Invariably when we have to do some emergency fence repairs we have none to hand. I can tell you that two hammers work very well as a substitute.
Place wire over the angled section of hammer 1 (as an anvil), and hit it smartly a couple of times with hammer 2.
Instant point metal fatigue means the wire then snaps like butter.

I found out the hard way that I didn‘t have the strength required to cut wire with my wire cutters when my pony was caught on the fence. I bought a pair of bolt cutters and they cut through wire like butter. You might have to ask for them at the DIY store and convince them you are not a burglar before being able to purchase them.

Always found my " fencing pliers" have been up to the job, 2xcutters staple remover hammer tensioner multi usefull and not expensive, available screwfix toolstation and your local agricultural merchants etc take an offcuts of wire with you to test before buying.
