I’m not sure if what I am looking for is even possible but if I let you know what I am looking for then perhaps someone can tell me if they already have such a set up? (Or if it even exists!)

I have a private yard where I don’t live on site at :( Whilst the crime rate in area is minimal (sleepy village location!) I would like remote access CCTV at the yard so I can check all is Ok when I am not there etc and also if possible with the function to review at the end of each day/week who has been coming/going and loitering at my gateway!

I am going to put up a bright yellow CCTV sign to make it clear that it is in operation (whether it is or not!) and hopefully this in itself will act as a deterent but I would also like to have a camera discretely monitoring the gateway. Is it possible that I can either remotely log in somehow from home and watch when I choose just to check all looks quiet on the Western Front and/or have it stream to my laptop and be able to record it so that at the end of every day/week I can fast forward through it and see who has been coming and going, and if they are feeding the horses?!! (Arrrrrrgh, don’t get me started on that one!)

Is this possible without wi-fi etc actually at the yard and living about 10 miles away?? If so, how do I do it, where do I get it from and is it very expensive?!

There is a shed adjacent to the gateway that I would be looking to postion the camera on which has a gap between the top of the wall and shed roof that it could safely sit under.

I've seen some security lights that have a motion sensor but they also record onto a memory card when the light comes on. Although you couldn't see it as it happens you could review it the next day. They are about £70.

Ah that sounds good, thank you. I am more concerned about being able to record and review it I think than being able to access it as and when if I had a choice. Of the two, the former would be more usefull, particularly if say someone were to break in or something. :(

Do you know what these cameras are called or where I could get one?

And when you say "the light comes on" does that mean I would have to have a security light on the gateway? That isn't going to be practical as the gateway is on a road so it would be on and off constantly plus my horses come and go into the stable block as they please

There is a good range of cams that record onto a memory card as LynH says. But without Wifi on the yard I don't think there is a cheap way of getting what you need.

I just found these 3g cameras but they look like they are meant for internal use? They seem expensive but I suppose no more so than a mid range alarm system?

Get an internet enabled system. You can access the camera feeds from anywhere on a mobile phone, tablet or PC.
