Wish I had gone on to straw sooner!

Love straw! I've always been on livery yards where one thing they wouldn't let you use was straw, which is fair enough. but now we can make the rules, so straw it is, and my wallet is much happier with me, so is my back, and the horses love snuggling up in it after a long days work toiling over grass-eating and rolling... :)

Comments from people saying they don't miss smelling of wee... what were you doing, rolling in it?! I bed my horses on straw and no, it's not as absorbent as shavings but when I've flicked all the clean up and forked up the wet from the base I haven't noticed myelf smelling of wee. Unless my colleagues at work are just very polite :)

Also it's such a false economy having a smaller bed. I tried it at the beginning of winter and the beds were filthy. Now I have massive deep beds and the straw is so much cleaner and lasts longer. Love straw, glad I converted back.

A few years ago, I bought some straw from a guy who baled it using a horse-drawn antique baler. The bales were really light, so obviously I was getting less straw, but because the stems weren't crushed by a powerful modern baler, the straw was soooo absorbent and insulating. Usage was much less, and it was a joy to use.

I'd happily pay 3x the price if I could get it again.
