I'm going to try the elephant out hunting again this Sunday. She's had a lot of time off, due to an injury (she fell through ice on a pond) and the weather over Christmas, but has been back in work a month now. Not fit enough to do more than the first run really as she was a bit sweaty after 20 minutes of canter/gallop work in our fields this evening.

Some of you might recall that I've not been since November last year when she had me off due to her intense silliness. As the ground got wetter, the behaviour got worse and I just didn't enjoy/couldn't see the point in continuing to take her.

However, it's quite dry at the moment. Armed with a new bit, extra grippy gloves and reins and a new feeding regime (ie no feeding as she was loopy before!) we're hoping for a good short outing.

It's irrelevant to the point of post that's why.
Besides which patches hunts with a bloodhound pack following a runner with scent.

Why is it pointless? I think animal walfare is extremely important. You wouldn't treat a horse like this, so why do it to a fox?

Just to clarify, whilst I don't have any objection to other people going foxhunting, their choice, it's not for me. As much as I dislike them eating my hens, I wouldn't want to see one being killed personally.

I hunt the "clean boot" with a pack of bloodhounds. There are no foxes hurt in the making of our enjoyable day out at all. We follow the scent of a fell runner. At the end of the meet, the bloodhounds catch up with him and it's "death by licking".

It couldn't be any further removed from your idea of what's barbaric at all.

I don't mind you having a pop at me, but please do get your facts correct first.

Vizslak...read the title...we go tomorrow! LMAO! ;-)

She's clipped, ready to go. We set off at 1pm tomorrow.

On a sunday!! Well how jolly confusing!! Lmao... well I did tell you I was having one of those weeks!! :p
Good luck for tomorrow then!!!!

I know....it's confusing as alot of packs go out on Saturdays. Seems it's a Bloodhound thing.

It works well for me as PC rallies for my daughters are Saturdays. They never clash.

Yes that is true, for gawd's sake Clare be careful x I may try it myself one day when I get the nerve and some transport sorted. Here's hoping for some sunshine tomorrow and some dryish land for us all as I'm hoping to go out hacking as well :)
Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
take care Cx

I think we might have found the bit for my mare to hunt in!

She was in a single jointed cheltenham gag today. No head diving, yanking or careering off. She was perfectly well mannered and I can actually say she was a JOY to hunt today!

Had an absolute blast. We did three legs and were out for two hours. What a way to end mine and Miss P's first season of hunting together. :-)

I have been trying to explain this to FMF for a while now, does not seem to listen!
Obviously does not understand the clean boot.
Hope you had a good day Patches?

I dunno, chasing a pedestrian sounds a bit cruel to me ;-)
Glad you had a great time Patches, I was a bit alarmed when I first read your post, I thought you were taking an elephant hunting....lol (note to self read posts properly..!)

Glad to hear you had a fab ride :) as it has been a great day for it. We were out for around 3 hours all road work today as didn't fancy a blast, just wanted a trot. Glad to here you got back safely too and that Miss P was better behaved for you as I didn't know you were having any issues with the bit. Happy that she is going better for you now though :) x

LMAO, I think FMF is the sort of person who turns up at a clay pigeon shoot with a banner saying "stop cruelty to Clay Pigeons".

Yes mike007, very good comment! I found it bloody hilarious!

Like I have already stated, I did not realise the poster of this thread was hunting an artificial scent. Hope you had a lovely day and a relaxing evening knowing you haven't contributed to torment and death of a wild animal.

Good day all..........x

Thank you FMF.

I did indeed have a very enjoyable day out. The fell runner made it back to the hound trailer before the hounds caught him. :-)

FMF ,you clearly have some strongly held beliefs and I am not criticising you,but perhaps you need to learn a bit more about hunting before leaping in. The big give away was that the OP refered to Sunday, and by the way ,Bloodhounds dont follow an artificial scent, thats Draghounds.

I don't get it. Hunting is now banned, so even traditional foxhunts are all off chasing socks soaked in fox pee and so on, so which animals are being tormented? Surely this suggestion that all hunters are breaking the law is.... dare I say it.... libellous?

Or maybe we need to STOP THIS CRUELTY TO PEE-SOAKED SOCKS! and similar smelly implements ;)

Glad you had a good day Patches!
