I have a horse here that I won't sell but don't have time to ride. You would have thought it would be easy to find a rider for a well behaved weight carrying cob? Ohhhh no! Found two riders and both unreliable and not really interested. About to place yet more adverts ready for a summer rider so keep your fingers crossed for me!

Oh tell me about it!!

I'm trying to find one for my Welsh C mare, and I've had 3 girls turn up, one stayed for 2 hours, talked the talk... til her mum phoned the next day to say that riding twice a week might be too much

The other two were no go-ers too (not their faults, just young & nervous)

If someone had said to me when I was 14/15, here's a pony ~ absolutely no money involved, no mucking out, no feeds, no hay, no shoeing bills, no insurance, Just turn up and ride ~ I'd have jumped at it

i agree - freind at our yard has a novice ride 15.2 heavy weight cob sweetest thing, she wants to loan - local paper has 2 ladies looking to share novice ride in our town - perfect! i called them - they say we will call you later, 9.15 and still no call - you would think they would be bitting my arm off wouldnt you, that sort of horse doesnt come up for loan every day! AND THEY WERE THE ONES ADVERTISING!!!!! what a waste of everyones time!

Same experience here ... we have a horse in a million, 150% to handle, lightweight cob, loves his hacks, jumps like a stag - and we have really struggled to find anyone who will commit to riding him regularly. Is it that everyone who can ride either has their own horse or is nervous about riding outside a riding school environment? I'm sure that even a few years ago when my daughter was at Pony Club there would have been a lot of teenagers there who would have leapt at the chance of having cost- and work-free rides!

Oh yes agree with what yous are saying. When I fell preggers, I advertised for someone to ride my mare. No costs, mucking out etc just to have a bit fun. I did state that did not want any total novices as she can be a bit sharp but she isnt dangerous.
Got 3 phone calls.
1.Someone who has had 3-4 lessons but cant afford to keep taking them.
2.A bloke who wanted to teach his 8year old daughter how to ride.
3.Someone who sounded ideal, but didnt phone back!
Ended up with a mature novice who had been riding for 1year, bless her,
Even though I am riding again, she is still pottering about on her and loves her to bits. Fox really looks after her too.x

good luck! I advertised for a rider for my 13.2hh a few years ago and had absolutely no luck whatsoever, like everyone elses experiences they were all completely unsuitable!

Why oh why do none of you live near me! i would bite your hand of!
I am the other side of the coin- cant afford my own horse any longer but very committed and i even enjoy mucking out etc! any thing just to get me back in the loop!
But so far - nothing! unless i was to travel 40 miles which i just too far!
