The person who i bought her off didn't know anything about her, but i found a name and address on the passport saying they are the first owner or breeder!
..So ive wrote to them! I really want to know her breed, dam and sire, exact birth date, Hopefully they will write back and tell me :)

I hope they reply. I did the same thing with one of my horses and had a letter from the breeder and photographs of my horses dam. Also one of the others was "Jethro". The comedian from Cornwall. He actually rang me and had a good chat about my horse. Very interesting and worth taking the time to write to previous owners. Good luck

I've had contact with one of my pony's old owners, it was lovely to hear all about him, the lady even sent photos which was just wonderful.

I still have a few months missing from his history (owners by name of Warman, in Welwyn, Herts if anyone knows them, I wrote a while ago but no reply, not sure if they have moved)

Good luck with your journey!

Just be careful. We did that and ended up with our horse's full brother..... ;) ;)

Good luck and I hope they're nice. Most breeders are just relieved to know their horses have ended up in a good home, particularly if they've lost touch with them.

Good luck :)

I managed to trace 1 of Ruby's many owners, I found out some good stuff, got sent some lovely photos, but then got some bad news too :(

Glad I did it though, has changed the way I see my Horse!

LB - was it bad news as in something she had done, or something she had done to herself i.e. an injury

I did this and have now traced my horses while history. Breeder even sent a cd of loads of pics including some georgeous ones of her as a foal :) we are now even friends on FB!!
It's nice to know what she has done her whole life.
So really hope you get a positive reply :) x

I found out she put a young girl in hospital :o

It seems Ruby had a thing about traffic and if any car overtook her she would bronc until the rider came off, in this case the young girl seriously injured herself. She was passed on from 2 homes because of this.

I had her for over a year before I found this info out, never had any issues with her on the road, so it came as a bit of a shock.

LB- it shows you how they history can dissapear with the passing on of the horse - but i would think that was great information as now you will always be a little bit more on your guard.

Yes and no.

She was bought as my confidence giver, so finding out this info worried me incase I lost my confidence in her. Luckily that hasn't happened at all. I have taken her along side the motorway, over the bridge (she was a tad nervous, but didn't do much) under a motorway bridge in which she was a star and have been overtaken by a train once when we were cantering. All of these she coped with and stayed sensible, so I guess her fear of traffic is well and truly over :)

It was a little sad, as I found out I was her 6th owner in 5 years :( (I got her as a 5 YO, she is now 7)

I did this when I got my mare and they sent back a lovely letter with details on her mom and gran, how she came to be (accident :D) and they sent me photos of her at a few days old with her mom

How exciting!
I found one of Foxy's old owners on google and text the number, she was made up and had been looking for her for a while. She's lovely and we chat on facebook a lot and shes hopefully coming to see the moody mare at the start of the new year! So excited to see both their reactions! :D

I did this with my daughter's last pony. I had a lovely reply from her breeder, who was relieved to find out where she was and sent me some lovely pictures of her as a foal. Definitely worth doing :)

I did this also....thanks to this forum actually and Hamlets house!

Found out my mares entire history and am still in contact with her breeder, who still has her mum. Found all info about her foals and photos of them, and have both their owners on FB too, along with another lady who owns her sire!

Even got some old photos of my mare back at the stud with her first owner, with her foals at foot :)

She's always offering her a retirement home if ever she needs a place and everyone always keeps in contact :)

I went tracing a horse I used to ride, he was never mine, as the owner at the time wouldn't sell him to me, as "he didn't want my death on his consience". Wouldn't mind but I rode him very successfully for 4 years, hunting was a bit mental though. As his breeding was recorded, and at the time, wasny getting anywhere in other directions, I phoned the breeder. He told me a few funny stories, horses first day hunting, he was standing on top of a bridge and hounds broke, before he knew what was happening, horse had jumped off bridge into the river, cantered down, jump out and followed the hounds. We knew then that we were talking about the same horse. mental at hunting. swapped some great stories, and he put me in touch with the dealer that had phoned him previously to get info. found my baby, but he's in the us, ranching cattle. I hope the breeder gets back to you, most breeders love to find out where their horse/pony is now and what it's up to. keep us posted. xx
