I am going out on my first hack on Bailey tomorrow morning! We're going for a quiet pootle round the village with a friend on her horse.
Bailey began being backed in June [had July off due to sarcoid treatment and abcess] and has been doing brilliantly. Some of you on here may know that I had lost my confidence a couple fo years back and it has taken a long time to try and get back to where I used to be. I wouldn't say I am there yet, but I am definitely closer than ever!
I've owned Bailey since he was 5 months, and to finally be riding him is immense. I know how far I have come; I rode him on Tuesday evening and he was fine, wasn't concentrating quite as well as before [we have an indoor school which is near the lane and it had been raining and so when cars steam through - 30mph my @rse - it makes a "shooshing" noise]. Just as we were doing ok, another lady came in with her horse who proceeded to be a ****. He ended up deciding that a lion was going to get into the school and eat EVERYONE and so had to bolt towards us to tell us to run away too. Bailey decided to turn and make us safe too, and I have to say - my velcro bum is very good!
I was so pleased with me - 18 months ago I would have been frozen in fear, in tears and got off straight away. I settled him down again, and next time the other horse did it, Bailey only jogged a little. He normally ignores everything, so I put it down to still being green and he'll learn as we go on.
So, wish us luck! I have just got my "Polite" tabard too, so hopefully we'll have a nice uneventful hack round the block
It feels so good to get on MY horse and not feel like a nervous wreck every time
Will see if remember to get any piccies and post them tomorrow
