It's been a long journey with my boy. Bought my him almost a year ago now and have had a nightmare of a time breaking him (or re-breaking him since I've now learned he was broken before me) being bronced off, him being so scared of tack he would literally mess himself.

Done a year of groundwork, have sat on him twice but bronced off both times (all physical reasons dealt with and now ruled out). Today's the day I attempt sitting on again!

Well that didn't quite go to plan!

He was wound up because of another horse before I even started. Lunged for a while until he behaved and settled, laid across him as usual. No fuss.

Asked him to walk on while laying and promptly got deposited on the floor!

Went back to laying across so we ended on a good note.

Oh well.. There's always tomorrow!

Could it be the fact you're lay across when asking him to move on that's making him buck? In my albeit limited experience, horses, who are being re-backed, hate moving forwards with a rider lay across- must feel very odd compared to what they are used to.

I doubt it, quite simply because he's done this countless times with no issue. It was only done yesterday as a lead on to sitting on him.
