Have a viewing arranged for the loveliest mare tomorrow. Friend of a friend of a friend's horse, 8yo ShireX chunky monkey. 17.1 so quite a bit bigger than my current slim 15 hander ride: wish me luck that I don't make a total disgrace of myself riding such a big girl and that all goes well. She sounds absolutely perfect from what I've heard so far.

So the good news is that I didn't embarrass myself riding her. The bad news is that that's because I didn't ride her at all. She reared up vertical with her owner after 5 minutes in the saddle. Looked like she was going to fall over. Owner said she'd never done it before, I believe her, she got off straight away seriously in shock hands shaking too much to untack. Think she's getting the vet out ASAP to see what could have caused it. Devasted for owner but very glad that I listened to people on here to make sure someone else rode first.

Extrordinary, perhaps the owner was showing some never before felt tension because of the hopeful sale and horse was upset by that.
Yes I think so. Tbf horse didn’t look all that settled to begin with, wouldn’t go near the mounting block and very swishy tail. Not at all the horse I saw on video. Owner’s nerves must have pushed her over the edge.

Sounds like a lucky escape for you!
I never minded when horses messed around when I was trying them; far better to do it then than wait until you've bought them and got them home
