With all these rugging questions going around...

Kind of in this situation atm as I have a yearling who is obviously still growing so trying to keep my collection as small as is physically possible!!

She lived out all of last winter with no rugs at all, so this winter I've bought her one fleece for drying her off if/when she comes in, and one mediumweight stable rug for when shes dried. I may consider buying her a lightweight turnout just to keep the water off her but I'll get that nearer the winter as I don't want her to grow!

Good question =]

For my sweetitch mare it would have to be a sweetitch rug, then I'd have a lightweight turn out. So long as horses are dry with the wind off them then they can tollerate most weather.
For my oh's softy mare I would have a lightweight turnout, and a medium weight stable rug - so I could layer if it gets really cold and grotty.

my would be fly rug and middleweight outdoor rug .
one for the flies in summer and other would be for snow etc as i tend not to rug my to much inless needed. im a strong believer dont buy it inless your horse needs it

I have a rug fetish!!

1 summer sheet
1 Lightweight turnout and 1 stable
1 medium turnout and 1 stable under rug with neck
1 Heavyweight turnout and 1 stable

Plus a coolex turnout, with necks
Thermatexs

Think thats it for now!:D

It does go down to about -20 where i live though and the horses are either clipped or very old!!

I use Weatherbeeta rugs, love the Landa Freestyle ones.
Horses have: 1 x no fill turnout
1 x 100g fill turnout (with neck cover)
1 x 220g fill turnout
1 x fleece
They are clipped in the winter and live out as much as possible. If they come in I leave their turnout rugs on as I have no way of drying them. I do have a couple of stable rugs in case they really need them.

the two rugs that I use are a medium-weight turnout and a thermatex per horse, that covers pretty much all eventualities.

though a spare turnout to let the other air and a summer-weight thermatex cooler are nice to have as well...

All our neds have the following....

Fly sheet (Dizz has two, don't ask :rolleyes:);
Lightweight stable rug, with a neck; and one without a neck;
Mediumweight stable rug, with a neck; and one without a neck;
Heavyweight stable rug, with a neck; and one without a neck;
At least two fleeces;
Lightweight turnout, with a neck; and one without a neck;
Mediumweight turnout, with a neck; and one without a neck;
Heavyweight turnout, with a neck; and one without a neck.

Dizz has a Coolex or Thermatex (can't remember which lol)

I think that's all.... There might be some variations on a theme :D

Hm. Just worked out roughly what that little lot cost... Oops.

If I could just have 2 rugs it would be Rambo middle weight and a stable rug - mw.

Unfortunately my pony has zillions of rugs and my 16.3hh is also heading that way, especially when shivering in the rain the other day. A 150g rug on in AUGUST!!FGS wimpy neddy.

Mine would have to be a light weight turnout and a medium weight turnout. I hate to rug unless I totally have to, as mine live out 24/7 and are hardy natives. So lightweights are useful when all the other horses are wearing their medium rugs and medium weights are good for freezing conditions when everyone else is inside :-) Luckily for my bank balance I don't have a thing for rugs :D

one lightweight, one medium one stable and one fleece absoulte basics for me

but i have : a no filling, a lightweight-hardly any filling(ripped to shreds but lovely rug even though its a bit small) a 200g no neck, a 200g with neck, a 115g neck stable rug , a no neck show fleece (bit small), a neck fleece, a waffle cooler, a net cooler and a hoodie
(200g no neck, lightweight and show fleece all came with him)

1 light weight and 1 medium weight would do for my lad as that is all he has anyway...have a few other rugs as spares but these are the only two that need to be washed and re-proofed each year.
