Rosie took Bolly and Bertie to do a Prelim and a Novice test apiece on Thursday with Charlie pony on board as the calmer. Fortunately her times were sensible but she still got up at 4am to plait and polish and help her Mum muck 12 (yes 12) out before they left. I joined them later as chief video monkey :D.

It was Bolly's first show since last October and Bert has only done a clear round or two since he came back into work last autumn after having a year off to sort out his tendon injury. We were expecting some fireworks in the warm up but neither of them was too bad and they duly worked their way through Prelim 18 - not brilliant but Rosie went wrong on Bolly much to her disgust. Think he got about 59% and Bert got about 64% and came 5th. The video monkey decided it was too cold to take her gloves off and work the camera until she'd 2 chocolate bars and a cup of coffee so no film you'll be relieved to hear ;) :D.

A bit of a gap for more chocolate etc and on to Novice 27. The sun was making patterns on the floor of the arena where it shone through the skylights and sure enough, Bolly decided these were for jumping over or swerving round. Bert agreed about the sun but he just did a 'what the hell is that/sharp intake of breath' type movement a couple of times. I don't know why some patches were scary and some weren't but there you go .

I actually plucked up courage to take one glove off and film Bert. Haven't uploaded it all - takes too long on the pathetic bandwidth BT allows me - but here's a bit in the middle.

We didn't hang around as there were still loads to go and there were hardly any scores up but found out afterwards that Bolly got 174 and Bert got 186 and was 3rd. Not sure, but if it was out of 240 like the Prelim that's 72.5% for Bolly and a whopping 77.5% for Bert! Only unaffiliated but we were very pleased with how they went.

I'm about to go and make a big pot of leek and potato soup so you're very welcome to a bowl of that as a reward for reading all this if you fancy some :).

PS Does anyone who lives in the Gt Yeldham/Hedingham area of N Essex know of anyone who'd like a part-time yard job? Don't know how they're going to manage when the eventing season starts :(.

He looks lovely and he looks like he also knows it! Amazing percentages :)

Has she got a very busy season planned then- how many will she have out and about?

Thank you peewit - we're so useless at pure dressage stuff that we just didn't know. Thought the scores in the 70s were too good to be true :).
It was a very useful day out t_e. We felt they went pretty well and more importantly, it gave them both a reminder that warm-ups are ok and that competing is part of their job.
Lolo - those two for starters + one she's riding for someone else. Then LB (my one) and Oscar - both 5 - as soon as they're ready and she has 2x3 yr old coloured horses Patch and Pie, who still have a way to go.
But they also have 2 or 3 on sales livery, a couple who are there for schooling and Kevin, a freebie who needs rehabilitating. Then there's Hector who's Rosie's Dad's hunter and I can't remember the rest :D.

I think as chief video monkey you undersold yourself - only 2 chocolate bars ??? At least 3, an egg and bacon sandwich and 2 cups of tea !

Very impressed with filming and thought that it was a pretty nice test - well done! I'd love someone to film my tests!

Thank you Kirstyl - I'll be delighted to film your test if I'm ever at the same place at the same time as you :)
BbMix - he is actually quite loveable, he headbuts me occasionally, very gently, but he never bites me.
NR99 - I'm sure you're right (I'm lucky enough not to know about such things - although digging a path through the snow to the garage just now has warmed me up a bit :D)
Thank you Measles. Rosie's OH does help when he can and her Dad puts them on and off the walker sometimes but yes, all tips on labour saving ways of mucking out would be appreciated. Sounds like your OH is a bit of a star!
