my horse did that once, the placing pole was 12 ft in front of the jump which was a 3ft 9 spread, he cleared it tho!!
They were 5ft wings and he jumped higher than them!

Whoops! The rider did well to stay on especially as he carried on to the next jump.

in the back breaking one the horse did kind of look like a coiled spring ready to release, you could just tell it was going to do something.

yup my last horse did. Unless well riden to the fence she removed 1 stride..so cleared a bounce, bounced a one stride etc. Had to get quite high before she backed off a bit!!!

I had this happen to me on my pony Ella, except we didnt come out of it so well. She caught the second part of the jump and landed on her side with my leg underneath her. Was totally my fault as we went into the jump way too fast. I was very lucky to walk away with just bruises, dont think it would have been quite like that if I hadnt have had my body protector on.
