Just wondered, having read the article in H&H about wobblers in horses, how many people

a)Knew it existed in some large breeds of dogs

b)have experienced it in large dog breeds?

And
c)what course of treatment they took.

Please dont panic, it is fairly rare!!!
I used chiropracty and hydrotherapy swimming for my mastiff with symptons of wobblers. See pic on signature!!Worked a treat BUT he was never officially diagnosed as I was not willing to have myelogram. So Im not saying it is a cure before anyone shoots me down!!!!

Would just be interested to know if other people have used alternative treatments or experienced the disease in dogs, particularly mastiffs..

One of our rescued dogs, a Dobe, had wobblers. He had very severe surgery on his neck, he had to have a myelagram (sp) first and be tested for vWb's of which he was clear. The surgery was successful and he lived for another 8 years after the surgery. I have known several Dobes with wobblers and several Great danes. If I am not mistaken it is also common in Italian Spinoni.

Thanks, I think it is most common in dobermans and danes, but it is actually found in many of the large breeds. The problem is it comes out at different times from what I ve been told. Danes at about 4 months, mastiffs 8 months, dobes about 2 years (?) and borzois about 8 years!! Not sure about the Spinoni. Its aslo in St bernards, bull mastiffs, mountain dogs to name but a few!
They are beginning to think it is a gene that predisposes the dog to fast growth rate.
