My friend's horse has just been diagnosed with wobblers. She is currently starting some new treatment which involves steroid injections in her neck.

Has anyone had a horse with wobblers before? What was the outcome?

I've known a few, symptoms vary with each. All those I knew were retired, most seemed completely normal, but one had very bad co-ordination and unfortunately had to be PTS, but he was quite a severe case.

My TB (bright chestnut in sig) has a form of wobblers caused by chronic arthritis in his neck squeezing the nerves to his hind legs. He responded well to the injections and with 6 months lungeing in a DIY pessoa and then 6 months riding in walk he is back to being a relatively able-bodied horse again. He will always be delicate in comparison to a normal horse but seems to be enjoying himself.

I found that I can manage his condition with NoBute, Cortaflex and an Armadillo magnetic therapy neck rug. He has a strict exercise regime building up his topline and I have to always ride him on a outline - it appears that flexing relieves the pressure on the nerves. But he still manages to enjoy canters in the park so as far as he is concerned he's fine!
