Flint has had a swollen fetlock which has pretty much gone down over the past two days, we think he slipped in the field. He has been slightly lame on it, but he is well in himself and has pricked ears and happily doing everything like he would normally.

While just walking him today a lady at the yard noticed that when he places a foot on the floor his hock wobbles. . .now i know pretty much nothing about conformation but this isnt right, but i have never noticed it before and this lady has never seen it before.

I have read up a bit but i dont know really what it is. ..can someone tell me what it could be and if i should be worried ( i am very good at worrying myself btw).

Would just like some info on it. . .and if you have had similar experiences

Thanks

I have seen this on a few horses, but don't really know much about it either (have never looked into it.) Most of the horses I have seen whose hocks do it it hasn't affected them as far I know. A few of them were excellent jumpers.

I noticed this with my mare a few years ago. Had the vets out with no conclusions. Had another vet out who also did Bowen, told me she had sciatica and worked on her 3 times but nothing changed.

I then watched someone on the yard having a lesson and her mare did exactly the same thing, both hocks wobbling as they came into contact with the ground.

Both mares were rather fat, so I put 2+2 together. After weight loss both mares lost the wobbly hocks! Our vet and regular instructor had no experience of this.

By any chance, does this horse carry lots of condition?

He is a middle weight cob in good condition, and he feels no different to ride, or in himself, i just dont want to worry myself.

The lady who noticed it has confessed she is a little confo mad lol in a kinda way but not those words. . .i dont notice things like that, he feels no different. I had a lesson on sat and instructor said nothing.

If hes sound, I'd try not to worry. My horses hind legs would give a confo critic a field day. Sometimes he looks fine and other days he stands with one toe sort of turned outwards and looks cow hocked. Hes 9 now but I have a piccy of him as a foal and he was doing it then.

He is aparently slightly unsound. . .but i think this is possibly from what he has done to his fetlock which we have decided this evening is much better.

When i ride him he feels no different to before these things were noticed. He is happy in himself and i have the thought if he were in pain or uncomfortable he would tell me or show some signs.

You have all put my mind at rest. . .if it gets worse or something i will get the vet out but for now i will stop worrying
