Evening everyone!

Hoping you can turn your genius to this one :D

My wee girly is fabby at travelling in a lorry but not so much in the trailer.
Unfortunately we only really have access to a trailer.

She basically just can't keep her balance at all, it's like she is slipping or her legs are buckling under her (you can see her wee head disappearing from view!). This seems to happen no matter what side you put her in.

She has never had a bad experience that might cause her to be scared - she still pops on in no problem every time, doesn't get sweaty or worried. Just falls on her bum!

Worried she hurts herself....... Any ideas? Anyone else have same problem?

We tried a horse like this and he was fine with partition out or just the back bit off. But as we had another pony this wouldnt really work. Our farrier said to try first with the partition out not tied up at all, then try tied up, then with partition in not tied up, then finally partition in tied up.
Hope that makes sense, we never tried it but it could work if nothing else is.

Another vote for taking the partition out. My boy used to travel fantastically and then one day started loosing his balance - tried loads then someone on here told me to take out the partition and the results were amazing! Try it!

Aw, thanks guys

I knew you would come up with some suggestions.
I'll give this a try next wknd when we're on the move and let you know!

I worry so much when she's travelling, don't know why - it just makes me really anxious! She is much more chilled than I am, despite being the one that has a bad time of it.

Thanks again

:)

Another vote for take the partitian out, thats what we have done and it has helped so much, my horse actually loads himself now. You will need to get hold of some full length bars, which you can normally get no problem from the trailer company.

Good luck :)

Yeah it is!

Funny that - as when she was out on loan the woman said she had travelled better the day they borrowed someone else's trailer (not an Ifor)
Hmmmmm.....

She said the type of trailer they borrowed was one that has suspension (began with a B, can't remember the name though). I wonder if there's something in that. Would kind of make sense as she travels brill in the lorry:confused:

Just wanted to thank you all again for your advice.

It totally worked - travelled her without the partition this saturday and she was great. Hardly a single wobble!

Yippee!!

Thanks everyone xx

Mine will not travel in an Ifor - she falls over/sits down. She travels without a peep in my Bateson. Interestingly though, in either trailer she is better with bandages over boots, and barelegs over bandages.

Glad this owrked for you. I have an Ifor and Manni (below) has been dreadful travelling in it - mostly left hand corners - he really stumbles. So we took out the partition and bought a full width breast bar and he has been absolutely fab - hardly felt him move at all.

However, then we wanted to take Manni AND Toby to an event and so we put the partition back in and just thought we would have to go really carefully, but Manni was fine (even those left hand corners).

Perhaps having a spell without the partition gave him the confidence and balance and now he is fine travelling to one side - but if he ever starts to stumble again - we know what to do.

I have never had need to travel him in another make of trailer so cannot comment on whether the Ifor is worse than any other. On the whole I'm pleased with my Ifor

Yeah, I guess that's my next problem. How can I ever travel her with another now?
It's fine if we're just going somewhere local we can do two trips but not ideal if going further afield.
Maybe, as you said, it is just a matter of letting her build up her confidence in the trailer. At least I know it's an option for me now anyway and travelling her doesn't have to be such a stress!
