Wolf teeth... how long off, after having them out?

Mine's having hers out on Wednesday morning and vet says 2 days off and she can get back to ridden work. Seems quite quick to me but is this right from others' experience? I was thinking of giving her about 7 to 10 days off before bitting her again :confused:

Yes! That's what I would have thought, too. She's been out of work for several months recovering from a virus and then a nasty chest injury, so another couple of weeks wont make much difference. I guess I could lightly lunge in a cavesson to start getting her fit again. I think I'll err on the side of caution, like you say. But I was just curious whether it was unnecessary; my vet was quite adamant about it. Said the mouth heals really quickly and that she'd be fine after a couple of days. Hmmmmm.
 
I think that until the vet has taken them out it is very difficult to know how long healing will take,they may come out easily and heal quickly,or be deeper than expected and need longer.He must be psychic if he knows exactly how long she will take to heal.
I always put some salt into their feed as this can help aid healing.
 
Some of the racehorses are back in work the next day. We get them taken out as soon as we notice them. Some of the older horses that have come into the yard with bigger ones get 1 day off on the walker and 2 days walking work before normal work resumes. With these horses we can't really afford to give them too much time off so we try and get all of the teeth done when the horses are just back in from their holidays so they are only walking anway or just before they go out on holiday so they won't be being ridden for 6 weeks anyway.

At the end of the day it is your horse and if you want to give them more time then by all means do, it most certainly won't do them any harm.
 
We had our youngster's out before we started her. Older mare has a recently emerged broken one and is in hackamore while we get it sorted. Will stay in hackamore for at least a week after.
