My boy has a wolf tooth. The dentist is coming next week but I was just wondering, will he take it out there and then, or will a vet need to come and give the anesthetic, or does the dentist do that. Is it fairlyy straight forward? And how long after before i can bit him? Thanks

When our pony had a wolf tooth out the vet had to be there to sedate the pony. The extraction was straight forward and I can't remember how long before she could be worked but it wasn't ages. Our current pony also has wolf teeth, but they aren't causing any problems, so the vet said to leave them

I had the vet do mine, just really doped him, I dont think dentists are allowed to administer sedative?

Very straight forward, but a lot of blood!

And mine had to have 2 weeks bitless

Some dentists will take them out there and then without sedation others will ask for the vet to sedate. I personally would want the horse sedated.
Afterwards I'd keep a bit out of their mouth for at least a week.

mmm, may be worth just getting the vet out then. The dentist is coming to see other horses in the field so I may get him to have a look anyway. I haven't bitted him yet because of this tooth, so maybe it won't cause a problem, it is very sharp though. Many thanks

Sorry, just remembered that he is a vet aswell

My dentist took out one of the wolf teeth without sedation - took less than a minute, and my horse could be ridden aftewards no problem. The other one fell out on its own a few months later!

My boy had both his wolf teeth out last year, they were really sharp and 'cheese grating' the inside of his mouth!

The vet had to take them out, Archie was heavily sedated and it took about 5 minutes!
I think he had about two weeks off after that, I lunged him, but that was about it. He's much happier now with out the evil wolf teeth!
