A friend has text me. Her horse had a wolf tooth taken out on Friday, and the very bottom of it snapped off - it's still in the horse's mouth. Dentist says should be okay. Don't know what the vet says.

First time I've heard of this. I think I'd be panicking, but then again, I can panic at just about anything

I know my vet is meticulous at checking that he has removed the whole tooth and root when he does wolf teeth extractions, as any bits left may have to be surgically removed at a later date. I would be concerned if I was your friend.

how old is horse, if young definitely get it dug out. My first pony had had his wolf teeth removed before I bought him, however what we found out later was that part had broken and been left in. As he was only 4 the tooth carried on growing and ended up sat just under the skin and because it was broken it was very sharp, he ended up having to have a general anesthetic (sp) to have it dug out and about 3 months off.

I'd want it out. Put yourself in the horses position - broken tooth in your mouth???

Painful.

I wouldn't have thought it was good. She was told it was a tiny bit and it would be okay - I know nothing more than that

I'll ask my vet tomorrow.

When mine had his out the dentist made me get the vet to sedate him, so I had to pay both, as he said he didn't want the tooth to snap off and leave a bit behind ..................
