Mission
The National Wolfwatcher Coalition,Inc.
.. is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization , (501c3),dedicated to preserving the wolf and its historic range as part of our national heritage. This grassroots effort is supported by ordinary citizens who seek to promote positive attitudes about wolves and to support wolf recovery in all areas of its historic range by:
working to contain and reverse Congressional legislation (2011) which denies federal protections to the gray wolves of the Northern Rockies under the Endangered Species Act.
advocating for the long term survival of the gray wolf, the Mexican gray wolf, and the red wolf by fostering:
an appreciation of the ecological importance of this keystone predator,
an understanding of the principles that support wolf conservation and recovery in all areas of our nation which comprise its historic range
Educating the public, government representatives and the media about the importance of the wolf to the natural balance of nature by:
promoting and supporting the work of wolf conservation centers nationwide
organizing small community-based meetings and/or seminars that provide guest speakers and use multi-media programs to inspire guided discussion (i.e. Lords of Nature presentations)
supporting all efforts to safeguard the natural habitat of the wolf
vigorously supporting all regional and national organizations which share our goals and mission on behalf of the wolf
building a spirit of cooperation with federal, state and local agencies (i.e.: state and federal game agencies, livestock agencies, etc.) to help foster their acceptance of (a) the important role of the wolf in the maintenance of healthy ecosystems, and (b) the use of nonlethal methods of addressing human vs. wolf conflict
practicing the aforementioned actions with the intention of fostering good will among all groups that, traditionally, remained unsupportive of wolf recovery.
